Dell Business Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) Dock - TB16 with 180W Adapter (Renewed)

The Dell TB 16 dock works great but initially i had issues out of the box. The USB drives would disconnect. After some research I learned that users will need to make sure they load the updated drivers before it will work properly. Dell has important troubleshooting and set up guides on their support pages. You must flash current BIOS to your system thru Dell Update application. There are some important USB drivers and firmware updates that must be installed. Finally you should go to Device Manager > System Drivers > Thunderbolt Controller > Power Management and uncheck the box for “allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. Once I performed all these steps it’s works perfectly. The refurbished unit was a great price.

I'm very happy with the docking station, especially the price. But do have a couple issues. As mentioned in other reviews the cable to the computer is just not long enough for my setup.. I would have really liked a longer cord. I did watch a video where you can swap out the cords, but haven't dug into that. With my setup the short length puts strain on the connector and makes it hard to get to the front facing usb ports. Lastly I have noticed some flickering or sleeping of my secondary monitor, that could just be something in settings though. It was super easy to setup, very plug and play. Worked perfect with my Dell latitude and is sturdy/heavy enough to stay put on my desk. The power supply was MUCH bigger than I expected. I don't love that but overall for what it does its awesome. Makes it easy to work of one computer rather than transferring files between computers. UPDATE - I actually forgot to post this and just found that it hadn't sent. I've used the docking station a little bit longer now and I LOVE this thing. I was able to plug in my ethernet.. and now I actually work off my laptop more than my pc because I can just pick it up and go..

Before buying I checked with Dell and they said the dock is designed around there Thunderbolt 3/4 laptops but should work with other laptops as well. I noticed the unit that came was defiantly used. Scratches and scuffs all over it. On the Dell laptop it works for about a minute then disconnects the Ethernet, audio, and USBs, but the power stays on. it eventually re-connects but then fails with in 30-60 seconds.... I tried my new Gigabyte XE16 that has two Thunderbolt 4 ports and it worked for about 10 seconds and then just fails.

I purchased this as an expansion for my Alienware R15. No issues with the monitor connections however there was a noticeable lag and drop in transfer speed on the usb connections compared to the direct connections on my laptop itself. Overall, it felt like the unit was “bottlenecking” through the lightening plug and restricting my transfer speed. I tried troubleshooting it but couldn’t figure it out leading to me using it simply for my monitors instead of as it was intended (for a latitude laptop). My R15 also has the same power supply meaning that I still need to use both instead of one that I assumed at first. I think I would have rather purchased another type but I think I should have simply read the information before I purchased this one. Overall, it works, just not at the capacity I was assuming.

Arrived in the condition I expected since it is refurbished. My laptop doesn't have thunderbolt but worked fine for what I'm connecting to it. The power brick looks big enough to power 3 laptops and worked fine to power the dock and my laptop via usb c.

Good Product, plug and use for dell laptops.

I was hoping that as a TB3 dock, it might work with both my Dell laptop and my MacBook. No joy. Works fine with the Dell but my Mac doesn't recognize it.

Didn't work with M4 MacBook Air with 1 or 2 displays, although it says it does. Dell offer no easily accessible human support so my only option was to return it since I spent 3 hours troubleshooting.

It's advertised as a dock that supports power delivery, but apparently power delivery works only with Dell laptops even though the power requirements are satisfied, so it's not a standard Thunderbolt 3 device. On top of that, I could not upgrade the firmware because the installation of the firmware update utility failed with some vague error message. Tried it on two separate Windows 10 installations, one of them is a fresh installation. My guess is that the utility can only be installed on Dell laptops.

El producto llegó con la cobertura del conector Thunderbolt rota (como la de otro usuario), además de varios puertos sucios. Se entiende que está reacondicionado, pero también la política dice que le dan mantenimiento antes de venderlo. El dock presenta fallos funcionales ocasionales, como enviar un error de configuración de voltaje, error en la hora del sistema, no reconocer el cable de red, o el puerto VGA. Leí que todo eso puede pasar si el firmware no está actualizado, sin embargo, como se ve en las imágenes, arroja un error al ejecutar el proceso de actualización.

ES UN PRODUCTO EN BUEN ESTADO, DEBES DE VERIFICAR LA COMPATIBILIDAD CON TU EQUIPO DELL; A MI NO FUINCIONO CON UN EQUIPO QUE TENGO YA QUE DEBEN DE SER COMPATIBLES CON VELOCIDADES THUNDERBOLT. LE DOY CUATRO ESTRELLAS PORQUE LA SALIDA DE AUDIO 3.5 MM NO FUINCIONA, YO ME IMAGINO QUE POR ESO EL COSTO DE 600 PESOS. PERO LO RESOLVI COMPRANDO UN ADAPTADOR USB A 3.5 MM Y CON ESO FUNCIONA EXCELENTE.
