Worked very well. I have one on my key chain and one in a hiking bag. Keep in mind these are little guys, so they are a bit harder to use than the larger versions. That said, the loop at the end helps. For a situation where size or weight matter, this is a great option.

Bayite are the best ferro rods on the market. They are a semi-soft fire steel that shoots a tremendous amount of sparks with little effort. And they come in different sizes. I think they are the best fire steel available…..give them a try I’m sure you will not be disappointed

Small…nice for a set of keys

I LOVE Bayite and have bought several of their products. These little rods perform well and are perfect for EDC and kits. I've had a many other ferro rods including some of the more expensive ones and just don't see any justification in paying more. Bayite has never failed me.

I have larger rods, a couple in fact, and they mean business. However, they’re heavy. Too heavy for EDC. These are small, and easily slip on my key chain to go unnoticed until needed. Once the coating is removed, they spark just fine. I have a couple of multitools with me, and my pocket knife has a wide back edge I can use to spark, so that’s really not a problem. In an emergency situation, I don’t think putting some scratches on any of these things is going to be my first worry. If you are looking for something that strikes and you can keep with the rods, look at “bayite Striker-Pro High Speed Steel Striker for Ferro Rod Fire Starter,” also on Amazon. They work beautifully, can also hang on your keychain, and you get three for the price.

The bast part was the 1/4" diameter and 2 inch length. Very few Ferro Rod options are available in the less then 3 inch size, most have a big fat handle. I have one of those Spec Ops "The Wallet" , my goal was to get a Ferro Rod that fits in the mesh pocket, this is the ticket. A 3" ferro rod would have been too long, a 1 inch would have been really hard to use, but the 2" is fantastic. The longer the ferro rod the easier it is to use so a 2.25" would have been the max for "The Wallet", but for the price you get two, a backup for your spouse too. Key rings were not used in my application and removed. Ferro Rods worked great after scraping off the protective black coating, I cut a 12" Saws-All blade down to 2.25" and put a "bur" on the cut edge as the scraper, worked great and have a 2.25" course saw blade in the wallet too.

Wearing this ferro rod on my keychain means that I will always have it close at hand. Since it is so small it is difficult to hold into place especially when you go to strike it because you must apply alot of pressure to get a spark.In a pinch this ferro rod will get the job done,exactly what ferro rods are made for.I give it three stars for overall performance,comfort in using, and readily available. I bought two and those will last many years.

these rods are the perfect length--the length that is pocketable, stashable and long enough for even arthritic hands to manipulate and spew sparks all round. Price is right. When it's there on a keychain or in survival kits/altoids--- its added security. pre-drilled so that you can retain it, you'd be foolish not to put these on your kids' or grandkids' packs--after teaching them how to use these responsibly. great insurance.

Great for edc keychain

These little firesteels are VERY difficult to use. I am very experienced in the use of 5 inch ferro rods, and have used them to light hundreds of campfires, but I am having trouble figuring out how to actually make these little things work. Those without considerable experience in using similar devices, should NOT choose these as their primary fire starters.
