Clairol Natural Instincts Demi-Permanent Hair Dye, 8A Medium Cool Blonde

Love this hair color, so easy and quick to use. Not as harsh as other colors. If you are coloring over grey, it turns them a little orange, but I was aware of this before I purchased.

I love the rich color of medium blonde. At almost 60, I'm not ready to let my hair go gray yet, but the light blonde shade is getting to be too much of the yellow/white blonde that is so common among mature women. The medium blonde shade is hard to find in stores. When first applied, this shade is monochromatic. When I have a specific event coming up, I apply it at least a week or to in advance. Within two or three washes, highlights begin to come out. My hair is naturally ash blonde: lots more ash than it used to be. As this semi-permanent color fades, there is no sharp line between roots and color, so it remains very natural looking. I only have to apply it every 8-10 weeks. I do roots first, then blend it out gradually after about ten minutes in. It's important to note that it will not lighten hair, but for my natural color, this shade is perfect!

I have dark blond/gray roots with highlights. I've been going to the salon for years, but the price is getting so expensive and now with the gray, I'm having to go more often. So I've been on the hunt to do my own roots and prolong my visits. I finally got the nerve up to try this. It did cover my grays, however it also really darkened my highlights, especially the highlights that were dry and overprocessed. Hopefully it washes out some but I even put coconut oil on the ends and didn't saturate it, so this was just from rinsing my hair out! It is more of a dark blond/light brown, nothing like the picture. I'm not sure I would use this again unless I can figure out how to avoid the highlights. Maybe I try with more saturated coconut oil on them. I would recommend starting lighter as other reviewers have said.

I really like Natural Instincts when I want to freshen up my hair color without having it look too harsh or obviously colored. The finished color looks soft and natural, and my hair still feels nice afterward. I also appreciate being able to do it at home instead of spending salon prices every time my color needs a refresh. Easy to use, pretty results, and a great option between salon visits.

This has been my go to color and product for years now. BUT,. it's the first time I ordered online. We girls all have different hair types and I NEED to share my experience. My hair is a courser gray. 8A has always just blended nicely with my color and texture. Love it! HOWEVER, for whatever reason, this box turned my hair a much darker color. Don't know why, and am not unhappy with the color, since I am the adventurous type, but if I weren't adventurous, this would have been a shock. See the pics. You need to know that the box I used (and I got the triple pack), did not turn my hair the color I expected on the box. Definitely is a dark brown. SO, be aware and forwarned. I'll enjoy this color while I have it but will be wary next time I buy. But I do love Natural Instincts. Gentle on my hair and so very easy to use. Have FUN!!!

I mixed the product as usual, but when I applied it to my hair it was very runny and did not work as it usually does. The product actually turned a little brassy and warm in areas instead of being a cool color. I normally purchase over the counter but couldn't find the lighter cool color so purchased online.

I am so happy I switched to demi-permanent dye! It has been such a relief because it’s almost impossible to "mess up." What I love most is how naturally it fades, instead of leaving a harsh line as my hair grows, it just blends more and more beautifully into my natural color every day. It covers my grays perfectly while keeping my hair looking healthy and shiny. If you're nervous about permanent hair color, definitely give this a try!

They have changed the color. It comes out very yellow and gets all over your hands and anything you touch. It is awful.

Remember, this is not bleach, will not lighten hair. Deposits colour a bit darker than expected (1 level) but fantastic grey coverage and excellent, gentle product. Will buy again.

This hair dye is not worth buying and doesn’t work well. After 20 minutes, there was no change at all.
