Speak 410 Corded Speakerphone for Softphones – Easy Setup, Portable USB Speaker for Holding Meetings Anywhere with Outstanding Sound Quality

I have used the Jabra Speak 410 almost daily since 2018 and have owned five of them, and even though two eventually died after a few years, I keep buying them because they are loud, travel-tough, and have a great mic with instant plug and play. All in all, the Jabra Speak 410 is reliable in the ways that matter: loud, clear, great mic, and truly plug and play. It is one of those tools that quietly makes work easier. Also, it definitely makes me a better employee than all you people trying to run meetings on tinny laptop speakers. If you live on calls and want something portable that just works, I recommend it. I have a long history with the Jabra Speak 410. Since 2018, I have used one almost every workday for softphone calls and meetings, and over time I have gone through five units. To be completely transparent, two of them did die after a few years of use. But I still bought replacements, which probably tells you everything about how well these work when they are working. The best part is how easy and consistent they are. Plug it in via USB and it is basically instant. No driver drama, no “can you hear me now” ritual, no searching through sound settings like you are defusing a bomb. It just shows up and works. Audio performance is the reason I stick with these. The speaker is loud enough that I am not leaning into my laptop like I am trying to hear a whisper through a wall. The microphone is excellent, and people can actually understand me without asking if I am calling from inside a dishwasher. For calls, it is a noticeable upgrade over most built-in laptop audio. Durability is another big plus. These can take a beating. Mine have survived travel, being tossed into bags, and the occasional drop that would make a lesser device start writing its will. That said, they are not immortal, and my experience is that heavy daily use can eventually kill one. Still, getting a few years out of something that is used constantly is reasonable, and the replacements have been worth it for me.

This and the newer model Jabra Speak510 (which I use at work) made a world of a difference for business communication via Lync to South America and India, notoriously bad with regular phone lines. The 410 and 510 models have a very effective sound processor built in that filters human voice with perfect clarity, provided your internet connection is fine, and your partner abroad uses the same or a similar device. Even calling via Lync to regular telephone numbers changes the call from a strained, hole-riddled conversation to a decent communication. I rarely rave about a product, but this is way better than even the Jabra Headset I have at work, which allegedly has a sound processor as well. I could no longer imagine my weekly TCONs without it (had the 510 for more than 1 year now). Both models have mute button, volume control, accept and hang-up buttons. The mute function triggers a ring of many red LED dots along the outer edge so you can not mistakenly believe to be off air while blabbering obscenities (if so disposed) . Three green LEDs on one side of the device indicate that the microphone is live. Both models have a 3.5mm, 3-channel headset jack. The speaker is perfect for TCON with 6 people in the room, fine for 8-10, and just enough for even more. I have used it with a team of 15 and the other side checked only occasionally to repeat a comment. The only difference between the two models is that the 510 is able to connect via bluetooth. If you are planning to use it exclusively with your laptop, connected via the USB cable, you can easily use the 410. I would expect this to be as useful for Skype connections. If mine broke, I would buy it again in a flash. I have traveled a lot with my 510, and always carry it in the front pocket of my backpack. I have not used it very gently and it now has a dent in the speaker grille, but works just fine. The device comes with a soft pouch, the USB cable snugly rolls into the groove between upper and lower edge of the UFO shaped loudspeaker. Overall someone has done a fantastic job of thinking first and developing after.

I spend way too much time on conference calls, Zoom meetings and the like, and until now it has often been a problem hearing clearly what other people were saying, an issue not helped because I am hearing impaired. Jabra Speak has changed all that. I can now hear people very clearly because Jabra cuts out background noises and focuses on whoever is speaking. Even if someone has a poor mic, Jabra manages to deliver clear, crisp sound. People also tell me that they can hear me much more clearly. On top of that, Jabra is literally plug and play (with nothing else to do). It is small enough to be very portable and the volume is great considering its size. Only wish I had bought this a long time ago.

Of the items that I have bought from Amazon and have given 5 stars, this is one of the easy ones. We are using this speaker/mic for remote training sessions over GoToMeeting. It works well on both ends. The speaker handles high volumes without distortion. Though I would not use it for music, the sound quality is noticeably better than speakerphone. Going the other way, the microphone picks up voices well. Our group is approximately 25 people in a room that is 20 x 30 feet. The presenter at the other end can hear all of us, and has heard people whisper asides, to our embarrassment (yikes!). So, for meetings, the quality of transmission is perfect; clarity has never been the weak link. The Speak410 is USB plug and play, so if you have technical problems, check that the mic is not muted (conversely, you may want to make sure that it is!). Also, go into your control panel to make sure that you have the Speak410 set as an audio output device. The first time we used it, the presenter could hear us, but we couldn't hear her until we set audio preferences in Windows. We have found that OpenBroadcast works well for recording our sessions. The setup can be a bit finicky, but OpenBroadcast shows microphone levels and will record a video of the desktop. Again, though, make sure that you stop recording and/or mute the microphone at the end of the session so you don't inadvertently record post-meeting banter.

Overall a fantastic device with a few shortcomings. I'll be purchasing its Bluetooth twin, a 510 (instead of 410) for the other side. Good: - Picks up speaking at normal volume from ten feet away. - No driver installation needed -- plug it in, switch your software to use it as a speaker/microphone, installation done! - Controls are easy to understand and use. - Speaker is plenty loud -- you'll probably have to keep it at partial volume! - USB cord neatly wraps around the base -- great design. - No extra power cord! Surprisingly nice. - Eliminates echo entirely except in the most trying of circumstances. Bad: - Speaker emits very audible speech, but the aural quality of it is somewhat unsatisfying -- would prefer higher fidelity. - Short one meter USB cord -- limits flexibility of placement. Unless you want to put it immediately next to the computer or USB host, you'll undoubtedly need to buy an extension. - Microphone cuts out when speaker emits sound. This is a very common problem on these sort of devices. It effectively cancels the echo, but it forces conversations to be very stiff -- often people on both side of a connection will want to speak, and you miss the first few words of what they're saying. That leads to the inevitable "Could you repeat that?" It'd be nice if there was some sort of more advanced processing that could do this. This quickly becomes a hampering problem in noisy environments.

I absolutely love this Jabra speaker. I work from home and usually have to wear a headset and throughout the years the headset is causing some hearing loss and I was talking extremely loud because I was used to wearing the headphones. This speaker is awesome! I can take calls on it with no problems. Everyone can hear me clearly and I can hear them clearly. There’s a mute button, volume buttons and a few other buttons that I haven’t used but this thing really is saving my hearing. Using headsets there are loud noises in your ears that overtime can cause hearing loss so this product is the best thing I ever spent money on. Plus you’re not stuck sitting in one position because you have to worry about your wired headphones or your wireless headphones are in range.

7-29-2022 Just an update. This product is incredibly overpriced (by at $40), but is still a decent speaker. It was quite nice when it was released (many years ago), but it's competitors have leapfrogged it. The microphone is outclassed by a few rivals, so if features, such as background noise 'reduction', and clear audio capture are important, look elsewhere. The microphone sound quality is barely acceptable for an office environment. If you work in an office, I recommend finding a quiet area to use this meeting speaker, otherwise the other party will have to tolerate distracting background noise. The built in battery is a cause for concern, in regards to longevity and if it will continue to function if it dies. I recommend the model below this one without Bluetooth or a battery, if you value long term function with no maintenance. The Bluetooth connection (to my phone or computer) is solid and I've never experienced any issues. It's easy to pair with any device. You must remember to turn it off once it is unplugged from or you turn off your computer, as it does not have a automatic power off function, and will just stay on until it dies (which is a huge oversight). When the battery is dead, it becomes an expensive paperweight. When I come back into the office, the unit is always dead and I have to wait a while until it finishes charging before I can use it again. If this product eventually drops in price, I would still recommend it's cheaper, non rechargeable sibling, as it is less complicated and no batteries that will eventually fail. For the price, Jabra or whatever the company is named now, should really invest in R&D, instead of relying on brand recognition. Make your products worth the premium.

The very first call I used the Speak 410 on the other party kept telling me there was a terrible echo on everything I said and that they could not understand me, I was in a 10'x10' office. I was using the Speak 410 connected by USB to a new HP laptop and using the program Avaya. I used the Speak 410 for 5 more calls and every person on the other end of the call told me I had a terrible echo on everything I said and had a hard time understanding what I was saying. I disconnected the Speak 410 from the laptop, reconnected my headphones and did not have any further issues with an echo. I returned the Speak 410 for a refund. Update 3/12/17: After reading a lot of the other positive reviews for the Speak 410 I decided my issue with the echo was likely a setting on the computer and not a defect so I ordered a Speak 510 as I also wanted Bluetooth capability. When the Speak 510 arrived I connected it to my same computer with the USB connection. This time I went into the computers control panel section for audio and turned off the internal microphone and speaker on the computer. PRESTO! I have now been using the Speak 510 everyday for 2 weeks and not 1 complaint for an echo, the speaker quality is also very good. There is no doubt in my mind that if I would have done this same process of turning of the internal microphone and speaker on the computer I would not have had any echo issues with the Speak 410. I would now highly recommend either the Speak 410 or the Speak 510. I use Avaya as my soft phone app.

We do alot of online conference calls at our business, and mainly use uberconference, skype and Zoom. We've had this about 2 weeks and used it primarily with Uberconference calls. We noticed the improvement in sound quality on our calls immediately and its been easy and great to use. No driver to install and it worked right out of the box when we plugged it in. We could hear our clients on the conference calls much much better, and its got easy volume controls and mute. Also the microphone is amazing and we even had clients tell us (unprompted) that they could hear us very clearly. I dont know why I didnt look for this and buy this 5 years ago....I've been suffering through years of poor audio conference calls. If anything I regret not getting the next model up of the Jabra... Though this version works great. Will likely order more of these for my team and get the upgraded one next time. Great purchase... dont hesitate on it!

A fantastic little gadget.. has made such a difference as I do now not have to sit with my headset on.. Its very good quality, both sound and microphone. I would highly recommend if you are spending time on long conference calls, it really has been life changing

Purchased for my daughter to help her with her online classes during the pandemic. Definitely a worthy buy - audio feedback is audible and person on the other side could hear us loud and clear. Only thing is this speaker does not have noise cancellation for ambient noise.
