This head unit was made for TRUE AUDIOPHILES!!
Let me start by quoting the manual, "this head unit was made for True Audiophiles". ~~ALL NEAGATIVE REVIEWS ARE DUE TO USER ERROR!!~~~~I have been putting systems together for 20yrs and this deck for $250 you get A TIER 4 audio processing SYSTEM THAT VISCERALLY BRINGS YOUR AUDIO SYSTEM TO LIFE IN ~~NETWORK MODE~~ A 10 speaker configuration...or in my case 9 with your sub bridged to the LOW amp. There is also the ability to switch over to STD mode which is accomplished by toggling a switch located on the deck's exterior(The DEH-80PRS COMES FROM THE FACTORY IN STD(Standard font, rear, subwoofer config) MODE). Using the DEH-80PRS in this mode SOUNDS AMAZINGLY GOOD! Without getting into it, this deck has more than enough fine tuning abilities in STD mode than many will be used too. Pioneer solved that problem for you. Just use the supplied mic and run AUTO TA & AUTO EQ. Run this with your car off and windows up, The DEH-80PRS will TUNE ITSELF TO YOUR CARS UNIQUE HARMONICS. Iy will only get you a little bit there though, as I have found. But in Pioneer's defense, does any human ear perceive all know Frequencies exactly the same as someone else's? That is only "possible but not probable" with identical twins...lol.. . But back to NETWORK MODE..Toggle the switch on the chassis, reset memory, rewire speakers to proper Fq range amp (VERY IMPORTANT TO NOT SCREW UP HERE!!! YOU COUD DAMAGE YOUR TWEETERS PERMANANTLY! TAKE YOUR TIME)...3-AMPS ARE NECESSARY FOR NETWORK MODE! ALONG WITH SEPERATE TWEETER AND MIDRANGE SPEAKERS,. One for Lows(subwoofer), one 4ch for MIDBASS/MIDRANGE typically(5-1/4, 6-1/2, 6X9) inch speakers....AND finally one 4ch more for HIGHS(Tweeters). I won't get into the adjustability of the DEH-80PRS right now. But Pioneer has set a new bar for an audiophiles who do not need fancy displays, but choose SQ over show. The ability to fine tune each of the systems and components independently with all the necessary SQ functions(Slope, Phase, +/- dB...) and even mute a group to perfect enoyher is AMAZING! ````````````yeah the face plate isn't all that fancy but that is where Pioneer saved your money, yet managed to manufacture A TRULY REVOLUTIONIZING MASTERPIECE SQ HEADUNIT FOR THE PRICE! The buttons and stuff could have a little better feel, and "KEY BEEP-OFF" option added...but dang this baby sounds goooood!!! If you were wondering....My system consists of 2-Rockford Fosgate amps and 1-JBL amp. Rockford Fosgate P200-2 bridged a 12" Dual 4 ohm(in parallel) voice coil Kicker Pro subwoofer for bass. **********MIDBASS/MIDRANGE Up Front is 2(5-1/4) MB QUART Reference speakers and in rear 2-(6X9) MB QUART Reference speakers hooked up to at 4 Ohms to a Rockford Fosgate R300X4 PRIME SERIES AMP. And for the HIGHS, 4-MB QUART 30mm titanium Wide Sphere tweeters are hooked up to a JBL 100X4. Monster ULTRA 600 THX Rated RCA, and MONSTER XPMS-50 speaker wire(I split the XPMS-50 wire in 2 by cutting between then unzipping, I then spun in copper wire using a vice and a drill to tightly twist the 3 wires, Heat shrunk the 3 together. Installed #6 hole terminals to the copper and used self tapping screws to chassis ground. This provides unparalleled induced noise protection and drain. I am an Electrical Engineer with specialized training and knowledge of Electro Magnetics and RF). A Rockford Fosgate 1-Farad capacitor sits in the engine bay intercepting the 4 gauge wire that supplies the terminal block 1ft from the amps, which use 6 gauge wire to the 3 amplifiers. All ends are gold pressed. I AM CAR AUDIO SPOILED FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!!!! If you are ready to step up into the Big Leagues, but still need to upgrade your components. This HU allows you to do that via it's multi=mode capabilities. What you get inside is where the magic is made! Buy this deck and build your network system!! If you buy anything else, you are just paying to loose using any other SQ based system fusing a HU for under $r300.

Best sound available for a car
If you want real audiophile sound in a car, this is the best unit I've ever heard. It's one of the few on the market that even bothers to advertise their DAC - probably the most important and overlooked component in the sound path of turning your digital files into music. The DAC maker, Burr-Brown, has a reputation for making high-end home DACs in CD players such as the classic Denon 360. Coupled with a decent pre-amp (which Pioneer did), you have the potential for real hi-fi. The next remarkable (and I believe at this time a Pioneer exclusive) feature is the time-alignment feature. I was skeptical that this was more than a gimmick until I tried it out. It actually works! With just a few minutes of a fully automated tuning process, the normally muddy or harsh areas in the frequency spectrum where the tweeter crosses over to the mid-bass and the mid-bass to the sub turned into nice clean sound. An audible difference! another nice effect was the imaging - sitting in the drivers seat (I tuned the system by putting the mic on the drivers headrest), well recorded music places instruments and vocals on precise spots on the dashboard, or even appear to come from the drivers side window. It probably helps that I have a pair of good tweeters in the dashboard pointing UP at the windshield in such a way that only the reflected sound is heard, but still If I move my head more than a foot in any direction from the headrest the imaging starts to sound like an ordinary car stereo again. The sub especially blends wonderfully with the mid-bass (XO and 125 Hz) avoiding that cheesy thumping you get from poorly tuned subs.. The integration of an active crossover may not be unique to pioneer, but it's another big helper for audiophile sound which is overlooked by the vast majority of head units. This feature can also be approximated by using the controls on JL audio amps, but the Pioneer allows me to adjust all the drivers - sub, mid-bass, and tweets - from the listening position. The ability to adjust the slope is nice too, and I've only ever seen that on a few amps. Have an sound technician who knows what he's doing (hard to find) match this unit with quality amp & speakers, and locate the tweeters carefully, and you have a car stereo as good or better than any in the world. On the down side, Pioneer did NOT include FLAC support. This almost cost them a star on this review. A head unit with sound this good will is totally wasted on MP3s, and WAV files waste flash space. I play all my music from WAV files on an SD card - I could fit twice as much music in the unit if it supported FLAC. FLAC is the format of choice for digital audiophile sound. Lots of MP3 players and PC music programs now support it, and it costs nothing to license it - why on earth did Pioneer leave it out? The other downer is the manual. The descriptions for using the crossover and time alignment features are muddled, as though the writer never actually used the product but instead just copied some engineers notes. It took me some trial and error to figure these out. Once I got the hang of it the features were easy to use, but the manual was very little help. One last nit - it would be nice if I could save two profiles of the time-alignment feature, so that I could demo it to people sitting in the passenger seat. As it is, one has to sit in the drivers seat if they want to get the "wow" experience of solid imaging in a car stereo. In summary, I've never heard of any other head unit with such audio potential. My old favorite audio-quality unit maker, Eclipse, has stopped making audio head units (I have no interest in an overpriced, oversize, NAV that also plays music) so I'm glad Pioneer has stepped up to fill the gap. My system: The pioneer DEH-80PRS Morel MDT-30 tweeters in the dashboard Vifa P17w woofers in the doors JL Audio JX360 4 channel amp for the front Audiobahn Alum10 (vented, in trunk) sub on a JBL 600-1 mono-block. ...with a Mercedes E320 to move it around.

Easily the best head unit for the money
Let me make this clear; there are a million options on this stereo and not nearly enough time to explain what they do or how to adjust them. Thankfully, Pioneer has included a microphone to make all the proper adjustments for you. And, after you run the Auto EQ (the feature activated through the included microphone accessory) your sound system becomes a completely different being. This was the first of many things I swapped out while working on my cars sound system, and it has easily had the largest impact. I'm not sure how many car audio folks look for staging, but it's a big deal for me since my background is in home audio. Staging, or your speakers sound stage, is what allows you as a listener to discern not just what sounds you hear, but where they are on a hypothetical "stage". Standard stereos have directional tone to them, making it clear where the speakers are in your setup and what sounds are coming from them. A system with a great sound stage melts the speakers together and removes an idea of directional tone. This means, if you're listening to a live album you get a fantastic depth or sense of where all the artists are, the singer up front/ center, the bass player slightly off to the right, and guitarist slight center/ left, and the drummer center/ back. This all comes at you from a "wall" of sound, not from each individual speaker. That's not to say only live albums sound great, but it's the best example. It's not an easy idea to share with words. [If you have this unit, put Radiohead's OK Computer on and listen to it from beginning to end. You'll understand what I'm saying] My point is, this stereo creates an amazing sound stage for the driver using the Auto EQ feature. Even with my stock speakers up front, it completely changed the way I heard the music. As I started to add new equipment to the setup, I would consistently run the Auto EQ to adjust for the changes. Each time it would change the tone, pitch, and timing of my speakers according to their quality and individual sound. When I threw a powered Rockford Fosgate in the trunk, I tested it without the Auto EQ run. At half power, it produced an obnoxious womp that simply overwhelmed my speakers (test song: Lil Wayne - All My Homies). After I ran the Auto EQ, it cleaned the woofer up and created a fantastic blend with my aftermarket component JBL's. It still had a great depth to it, shook the inside, but no longer drowned out my other speakers. This is where some car audio folks might start to complain. The 80PRS is not for bass heads. This unit is about getting you the most pure and clear version of your music as possible. That means, songs that didn't have a heavy bass line before, won't suddenly have one now. It doesn't bring out any false tones, or add any non-existent sound to your music. Just like some people love Beats by Dre because they are tuned to bring out more bass, they won't like the 80PRS because it goes for clarity over an EQ'd sound. You can play with the settings, and change the EQ, but that really defeats the purpose of this stereo. Invest in something from Pioneer's 8000 line instead, and save yourself all the hassle of messing around in the settings of this unit. A couple of small things before I go. Bluetooth audio and calls works great, but doesn't display track or app info due to a lack of support for iOS 7. You can update the firmware, but that only supports up to iOS 6 at the moment. The SD card slot is great and supports up to 32gb SD cards. It reads and sorts your MP3's by their tags, not just folder location. The display is crisp and clean, although can be a little hard to see in direct sun light. There are also two rear USB's (with an included USB extension) and a front and rear (RCA) audio auxiliaries.

Excellent Sound Quality, Performance and Value
Let's keep this simple: you won't be disappointed with this deck. I could not be happier with the features, functionality, and ease of use. In the end it's all about sound quality for me and Pioneer's flagship receiver has my 14+ year old factory Firebird speakers doing things they never knew they could. Huge plus: the deck is software updatable. I easily updated the firmware using a Windows 7 notebook and zero third party software (after all the BT drivers installed). It would have been nice if updates could be done with a USB stick, after all, this unit has two ports although only one extension cable ships with the deck. Buy a second extension cable and drop both behind the dash for easy access later. Installation is a snap with a mounting kit and factory harness adapters, both of which I picked up at a local retailer. Bluetooth calls are clear and iPhone integration is flawless. I mounted the microphone on the driver's side pillar, and call quality is excellent. Pandora control from the deck is also excellent. Streaming BT audio doesn't sound as good but that's not Pioneer's fault; it's the spec and Bluetooth itself that make the quality noticeably lower. I no longer have an Android phone so I could not test it, and I suppose I will find out how Windows phone integrates when my company upgrades to the platform later this year. The included DSP functions give you a huge range of sound options. Using a combination of crossover and equalization curves, my factory speakers can reproduce music far more accurately than I thought they were capable of by steeply raking the low bass. The Auto-EQ and Auto Time Alignment are neat party tricks and do a decent job with the second included mic. Drape the mic cable over your headrest, start the countdown timer, and shut the door for five minutes. After, you can fine tune the settings to taste. I personally prefer the "Front" setting for time alignment, but I truly believe this is a personal preference. Although I don't have much use for most DSP functions because I think they introduce audible artifacts and can easily ruin the output, the Sound Retriever works fairly well. Pioneer's legendary SuperTuner has immaculate reception and sound quality. Favorite feature: the SD slot behind the faceplate is, for me, this deck's killer app. Load up an SD card with your favorite MP3s from your collection, set it for shuffle, and you literally NEVER have to worry about having something to listen to -- you have so many audio options that if you're struggling for material, you're probably too picky. Source Level Adjustment allows you to maintain somewhat consistent volume levels across various sources. If you're looking for a replacement, this is worth a few extra pennies over the mid-range units for the feature set. Even if you only use a few DSP functions or other features, you can't beat the flexibility and sound quality this deck provides. Highly recommended.

Worked Great....for 2 weeks
I have been doing stereo installations in all my cars for over a decade and know that quality equipment makes all the difference in the world so you can imagine how excited I was when I ordered this HU to replace my Kenwood basic HU for my 93 MR2. I opened the box and everything was there brand new and I couldn't wait to hook it up to my system and start tuning everything. It took me all of 30 minutes to perform the swap and without making any adjustments what so ever I was already happier with the quality of the music the Pioneer was putting through my setup. My bass was cleaner, and the mids and highs were that much crisper. Here is my 2 week breakdown of what I did/didn't like: Pros: 1. 5V pre-amp outputs really cleaned everything up on my setup. 2. Better cross over customization 3. BlueTooth AD2P sounded great with my Android phone. 4. Great performance right out of the box without even using the auto tuning feature (never got that far before the HU stopped working). Cons: 1. No printed manual. It's irritating that I have to pull out a laptop and reference a PDF every time I want to figure out how to access certain features. I often tweak my setup in various locations so this was mildly irritating to me. 2. No basic play control buttons. No pause, play, rewind, etc. Sure you can skip to the next song but if you need to pause your music you are going 3 menus deep to activate pause. Granted I only had the unit 2 weeks so maybe I just needed more time figuring things out but with no printed manual laying about.... So for cons you can see these are just knit picks. Over all I would gladly have kept this HU in my car and just "gotten" over the small issues. Unfortunately 2 weeks later my front channels cut out completely. After about 30 minutes confirming it wasn't my wiring, subs and speakers by swapping out the front channels to the rear outputs the whole HU stopped working completely and wouldn't even turn on (yes, I checked the fuse). I put my Kenwood HU back in and presto...everything was working just fine again. Sadly I pulled up Amazon to request a replacement but this was not available so refund it was. I would like to think I got a factory defect but since money doesn't grow on trees it will be a while before I will consider gambling with it on another one of these. To bad too...it had everything I wanted in a single DIN HU. Update (10/4/13): I returned it and got a full refund and then purchased a new one to replace it. Reinstallation was as straight forward as before and I ran the auto tune with a few tweaks and have been enjoying miles of awesome music. I surely am glad I decided to stay on with this HU because when I switched back to my Kenwood it sounded just plain flat. Once you have heard how music can be played there is just no going back. I have upgraded my rating to 5 stars because every once in a while you get the "lucky" straw with a factory defect and this HU is just too awesome to give it less than it's due.

Audiophile's Last Hope...
Purchased the DEH-80PRS to replace my old school Alpine CDA-9855. Have only owned high end Alpine units (9886, 117, 9885), but like most other companies, the quality and audio controls on recent models is nearly non-existent. I run a JL Audio HD900/5 powering a set of Hertz HSK165HSK component speakers with no external crossovers, so I needed something with an active crossover, and a wide array of audio adjustments. I also have a JL Audio 1000/1v2 powering a JL Audio 13w7 subwoofer, and needed at least 4 volts to keep up with my alpine. Honestly, this Pioneer is the only good audiophile grade head unit on the market right now, besides its big brother stage 4 (DEX-P99) that costs over $1000. The build quality of the unit is decent, but not nearly as sturdy as older models. Buttons feel cheap, and display colors aren't very deep. Wasn't very enthusiastic when I first installed it, but after playing around with the active crossover, I was really starting to appreciate it. Excellent control of audio adjustments, lots of different options for settings, slopes, and boosts. Ran the auto T/A a couple times, and wasn't pleased at all with the results. The 'initial' setting sounded much more front staged than using the mic, despite various placements. I'm still trying to find the right balance between my lows, mids, and highs, and I'm fairly confident that over time, I will reach optimal sound. Overall, I'm satisfied with this head unit. If you really appreciate sound quality, and are knowledgeable regarding tuning, this is an excellent choice if not the only choice on the market. Lots of audio hookups (2 USBs, micro SD, front aux, Ipod, Bluetooth, tuner, CD), allowing you to seamlessly switch between source units. My only complaints are that I wish they eliminated the front AUX, and focused on a bigger, better display. I also wish they eliminated the toggle switch/volume knob configuration, and just had a basic volume knob-although I primarily use the remote. I never thought I'd leave Alpine, but their recent models and their lack of audio control left me hopelessly searching for another audiophile head unit. Thank you Pioneer, for recognizing that there are still car audiophiles out there who really appreciate good sound, and for designing a head unit to fit their needs. If the display and build quality was better this would definetly be a five star review. Either way, this unit is definetly worth the asking price, and other than the stage 4 big brother, this is the best audiophile unit on the market.

The Pioneer DEH-80PRS is Amazing!
I'm impressed. I have been a Pioneer loyalist for my car audio head units for many years now and have owned several of their top of the line receivers, as well as budget models. I've always enjoyed the level of control and sound quality they produce. Also, I've never had a Pioneer head unit fail or malfunction in any of my installs, which keeps me coming back. All that said, when it came time to replace my aging Pioneer DEH-P5000UB, I started looking at Pioneer first. Over the years, I've gone from focusing on nothing but BIG and LOUD to now, as a father of three, settling for the best sound quality I can afford. But I am also a bit geeky in that I love to be able to tune and tweak my music, often just because I can. I saw the DEH-80PRS and knew it would have all the features to keep me tuning happily for hours. I installed the unit and ran the auto EQ/TA and then went straight for one of my go to songs for sound quality checks (Dire Straits - Private Investigations) fully expecting to have to make some micro adjustments to get things where I wanted. After increasing the level on the sub slightly I sat there, mouth open, astonished at the sound I was hearing. I listened all the way through then played Fleetwood Mac's The Chain and listened to that all the way through as well. I had no urge to change anything, it was dialed in almost perfectly. My soundstage which used to be at chest level due to the tweeters being located in the doors above the mid-bass (Alpine SPS-600C) was up to eye level over the hood, just left of center, a little off but better than it had ever been before. The harshness that used to ring in the tweeters from my old HU was gone and replaced by crystal clear highs (all the way to full volume (62)). Needless to say I was very impressed where the auto EQ/TA had gotten the stage and after equalizing just a hair I had just about every genre sounding fantastic. I plan to eliminate my rear speakers and run a 3-way (high/mid/low) active setup once I familiarize myself with the unit some more. Will probably dampen the doors at the same time to wring the last bit of performance I can out of my budget component set. The strange thing is, I'm more excited about listening to music again and less concerned about having to tweak settings to match every song, the very reason I went for this unit. All that being said, I am very satisfied with my selection and the fact that Amazon had this WAY cheaper than the competition and shipping was Amazon perfect, as always. Since this has been installed less than 24 hours, I cannot comment on other features, but first impressions are great, especially on what I consider to be low budget speakers. My install: 2005 Ford F-150 Supercrew. Pioneer DEH-80PRS head unit, Alpine MRP-F300 powering the Alpine SPS-600C in the front doors and Memphis 15-PR62V coaxial speakers in the rear doors, plus a JL e1200 powering two Rockford Fosgate 10 inch subs in a custom sealed box under the rear seat. (By the way, I never write reviews, the DEH-80PRS is that good!!)

Complete heaven
Accompanied by an rp4-vw11 canbus adapter for my 2012 golf tdi really made install flawless. I use and alpine mrp-f300 for the speakers and an alpine mrp-m500 for the subwoofer and hifonics zxi-6.5c speakers all the way around with a 10" jvc arsenal subwoofer in a .6 cu foot sealed box (very undersized for the sub specs). Sound quality is flawless. Comes with the auto-eq mic so don't buy one! After the install I setup auto eq and time alignment and the sound was great. I only made a few minor tweaks to adjust to my liking and it turned out great. There are very few buttons to use which to me is good(less components to fail) the 3 brown burr d/a converters really step up the performance compared to a like priced alpine head unit. I used monster low noise cables and everything sounds great. There are words to songs I never knew existed. After the auto eq I could hear the separation in the high hats and cymbles that made me feel like I was in the studio. I listen to a little bit of everything and this unit left no compromise for the variety. Whether it was heavy bass notes from dub step/electronica or the vocals from some Aerosmith tracks the head-unit performed. Leaving no cracking, hissing or ear piercing treble notes. It truly took an entry level system (compared to what you can spend on speakers woofers and amps) and brought it to a high end standard. I would like to bring up one con that everyone will bring up. The beauty cover that goes around the faceplate is fairly thin. This can lead to breaking it if you are rushing. I didn't need it with my setup because how my double-din to single-din adapter works but it may worry some people that will use it. Overall I'd say that this has been the best 350 dollars I have spent on the car and am happy to own such a wonderful headunit. This blows away a 500 dollar eclipse headunit I used to have and destroys, literally destroy alpine head units I've used in the past. You are most certainly paying very little compared to what you are getting. And by the way, the adjustments aren't very difficult it just takes a little getting used to (took me about 10 min while enjoying some music). Once you have it tuned in, turn it up. Your ears will be in euphoria and you will get goose bumps from how well it sounds. I would definitely recommend this head unit to anyone. Whether you are an audiophile and need to adjust absolutely everything (me) or you are looking to upgrade, don't settle for less an you will be happy you didn't.

Volvería a comprarlo. Puedo decir sin lugar a dudas que en conjunto a mis bocinas focal y un subwoofer amplificado suena como un auto de agencia con sonido premium...
