Scripture to Life
It took me a while to understand what the author was doing. Simply put, he took scripture and applied lesson he learned in his hiking trips to a particular verse(s). Once I understood what he was doing, I was able to not only enjoy the book more, but get more from it.This a book that will encourage and challenge you to apply scripture(s) to your life. This book is an easy read, and one that can be read repeatedly, and reap different things at different points in your life.

Easy read with additional commentary that enhances the text
Reading this book was far easier than I expected. I thought it might be rather boring and dry, but there are a couple of things that make it a good read if you are interested in learning more about the life of Ignatius:1. Ignatius actually lived a pretty interesting life.2. The comments added at the bottom help to put some of the historic events in context, as well as rounding out the narration. If you have never heard of the Jesuits or Ignatius of Loyola then you might not find the book interesting. However if you are familiar with them, this book is a great way to understand how the Society got started and how Ignatius' spiritual exercises came to be.

A Spiritual Classic
A spiritual classic. This is a profound book and Fr. Tylenda has done a remarkable job of annotating Ignatius’ words to help provide additional context to Ignatius’ life. Ignatius’ legacy speaks for itself, founding the Jesuits, writing the Spiritual Exercises, and articulating aspects of the spiritual tradition of Christianity in such a clear way that there is now a form of spirituality properly known as “Ignatian.” This text is a primary source for understanding the life of Ignatius. No doubt, the reader familiar with Ignatius’ life will have “a ha” moments as Ignatius narrates his life. He opens with his injury during a battle at Pamplona which then leads directly into his conversion experience. From there, Ignatius travels through Europe, has mystical experiences, runs into the Inquisition, and attracts his first followers. Ignatius' personality and spirituality shine throughout. Remarkably, though narrated toward the end of his life, Ignatius concludes his narrative before the formal founding of the Jesuits. Yet, while the narrative covers just a portion of his life, Tylenda fills in the remaining details of Ignatius’ life in the introduction. The text is easy to read, profound, and wonderfully annotated. Highly recommended to anyone looking to read a spiritual classic, learn more about St. Ignatius, or enjoys reading lives of the saints.

Intimate insights from an historical person.
It was very interesting. I was a little confused by two sections basically saying the same thing. Overall though, I learned a lot about Ignatius and the Jesuits.

Great way to know St Ignatius
Easy to read but sometimes the notes are repetitive and distracting. Nonetheless, it's quite accessible and full of interesting factoids.

Nothing to do with the autobiography of St Ignatius of Loyola
Not sure how this book got its title but there does not appear to be anything about St Ignatius of Loyola. It is all about Eric Kampmann’s musings on his travels across the Appalachian Mountains. Good as they may be, it was not what the title or the reviews suggest.

Too intense for me.
The language used in this book was to intense for me. A University scholar would probably enjoy it more then I have. I was looking for the life of St Ignatius, his virtues, how he lived and how he conquered his trials.I did not enjoy this book.
