Barley is good for you!
I love barley and this is perfect! Cooks well and tastes great in soups, grain mixes, or alone.

Love this Barley
Adding Barley to my diet for the 1st time and really like this product. Has a nutty flavor to it. I cook it up and add mushrooms, or grilled chicken. I also added it to a broth base soup. Really tasty and good for you. I was impressed with the quality control including the outstanding way this was packaged for shipping. It is a tad expensive but I figure that there are other less healthy food items I'm not eating any longer so the cost is a wash.

Delicious and clean
In a stew, this barley is outstanding. In the years I've enjoyed eating it, I've experienced only one hull. The flavor is nutty and I love the chewyness.

Quality Product
I cannot find this in any stores. I use it to make a breakfast dish (basically similar to oatmeal, but much heartier and healthier). I use 1/3 cup of hull-less barley; 1/3 cup of Organic whole oat groats; and 1/3 cup of organic rye berries; 1 tsp salt and 3.5-4 Cups of water. I put that in my instapot on SLOW COOK for EIGHT HOURS. Maybe you could do it on high for 4 hours, but I'm just in the habit of tossing it all in before bed. This amount lasts just over a week (I just use 1/2 cup in the morning). (I didn't create the recipe, it's from a cookbook called Good Food, Great Medicine).

Uber healthy grain, but needs sorting
I just love the texture, crunch and healthiness of hull-less barley. But it’s hard to find, somewhat expensive, and not that well sorted. I found other unknown black seeds mixed in, along with chaff and a few very small stones. Basically you need to hand sort the grain on a plate or other flat surface prior to cooking, which is time consuming. If there are no other options i guess it’s still worth it, but not sure why this should be required…

Great for soup!
This Barley has a bit of crunch to it. Much better than the bland soft barley in the grocery stores. Ig you cook linger it will be softer. Love this organic barley

Unfit to eat
This barley was full of loose debris and foreign material. Many of the kernels were embedded with dark material, either dirt or fungus. I felt misled that this was a USA grown product from an ethical producer, but it was labeled as an import. I also felt that this company uses its Bible quotes to pose to customers as motivated by some higher good, but the whole thing seems to be an act if they are pushing junk as health food. This variety of barley is not easy to find, but I did find an excellent source here called McCabe Organic Tamalpais Hulless Barley. It is ultra clean and fresh, perfect for many uses from malting to grinding for flour to porridge. Unlike Shiloh, the McCabe company gave me a lot of confidence to go with my positive experience in the product so that I can trust future transactions and order other of their grains.

This unhulled barley is delicious and nutritionally better than processed barley. It does take a longer while to cook, about 45 minutes, which for me is no problem. I especially like barley with chicken dishes.
