The Magicians: Season Four

My brother passed away night before last. I was not expecting this to be as cathartic as it was. I am still bawling. I guess I did need to cry. not done yet. I know everything happens for some reason or another, I also think self regret does too. Good season.

Watch it! You won't regret it.
This show is awesome. I have read the books and can tell you that it does diverge from them, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I keep wanting to say you could think of it as if Harry Potter were written for adults, but honestly it's much more immersive and real than HP ever was. It also gets a whole lot darker than Harry Potter ever did. Yeah there are quite a few "trigger moments" in the narrative, but that's just one of the things that makes you that much more invested in the lives of the main characters. On a technical side, the digital effects are amazing. It really makes magic seem totally plausible and adds to the immersion factor. The acting is pretty great. When compared with the books, you can really see how well each actor/actress pulls off their role. Thankfully, especially in Quentin's case, they also make the characters much more relatable. Some of the aspects of his character were incredibly frustrating to read. I'm happy with the way Jason took his character.I feel that the writers skipped over a ton of what happened with Julia before she because part of Team Save-Magic (and everyone from dieing terrible, gory, excruciating deaths). Her character in the books is incredibly different than the Julia that Stella portrays. I do wish that the writers made Julia a little head strong and bold than she is in the show.My only truly negative remark is there are not enough episodes in each season. I feel like we miss a lot of what goes on with each plot line.

Loved it. Engaging and fun watch.
Going by the title I wasn’t sure I would like the show. But I was desperate to find a show with a good mix of what I will call fantasy/sci-fi (please note or let me state the obvious, I am not a movie buff or critic). I am so glad I took a chance and opened the title and watched the first few episodes. I ended up loving it and all the characters. Some more than others, but all really engaging, funny. My favorite are the king and the queen. The fairies were really cool, although a bit ruthless. A deal is a deal I guess. All in all a really great show. The journey, the quest...the thought of magic, fairy realms and parallel dimensions existing. I was so sad when season four was over. I didn’t want it to end. Also, it got a little musical toward the last season. Nothing really wrong with that, just didn’t recall any of that in the first three seasons. Not sure what’s up with that, but enjoyed the journey none the less.

Ten thumbs up!
This entire series (series 1-4) is really well done and does exactly what it is designed to do - entertain! So many lesser series have multiple areas where depicted events conflict with later episodes - but not in the Magicians! No worries there - they actually bothered to ensure events were all in order! And, they chose the actors well for the characters they play - there is no dud actor in the series, IMO.Every so often there is a well place music video type "musical" scene. Again, all well thought out, timed, and choreographed.I watched the 1st 3 seasons on Netflix, and just had to see season 4 - so I bought it on amazon. I was not disappointed. And, I very, very rarely buy a season of any series. Its that good!!!

Smart, Entertaining, Interesting, Great Show
I found this show on my streaming service and was immediately hooked. I bought all four seasons to stream from Amazon Prime, and when Season 5 comes out (YAY!) I will also purchase that season as well. What do I like about it? It isn't dumbed down for TV, although I wonder how it airs on a cable network with strong and sometimes sexual language, and violence - mostly against things that do not exist. The characters are interesting and likeable (when they are supposed to be), the story lines are not predictable. Great show. What don't I like? When I am done watching Season 4 - Waiting for more.

Fabulous through the musical episode, 410, then it crashes and burns
I love The Magicians and I gave this season 4 stars because I love the actors, and I did love this season up through the musical episode. But the story is not going where you think it is (probably). It takes an abrupt bizarre turn (with regards to relationships) in the last 3 episodes, and it ends catastrophically. I know every season of this show ends with a dire cliffhanger, but this one is different. According to the showrunners, it's permanent. As a result, many of the shows devoted followers have insisted they will not even watch season 5, when it airs next year. That's how traumatic this ending is.

A great culmination
Great season. The best out of them all in my opinion. S4 gave some great moments and epic sequences. The finale wrecked my best friend and I. She had seen them all, while I had never watched the show. She begged me to watch it so she could share the last episode with her. I watched all four seasons in less than a month. Really great show. I purchased season four to watch it quicker and it was totally worth it.
