It is still an excellent book, one that she loves
This was ordered sort of by mistake, however I decided to keep it. My daughter loves this series and I was trying to make sure she had all of the books so far. I should have read the description, because this is the UK version ( Once Upon a Dork) and she already has the US version (Tales from a Not-So-Happily Ever After). It was only after we received it that I had realized my mistake. She decided that rather than send it back, we donate it either to a classroom library at her school or at the annual book donation that her school has, where they collect books to be distributed to shelters or given to lower income children. It is still an excellent book, one that she loves, and would have been just fine with had I been a little more careful to read properly and she had not already had a copy of this book.

Nikki's Wizard of Oz adventure in dreamland, for April Fools Day
Ever since the first book, I've become a fan of the Dork Diaries series. (Basically, it's Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but for girls). Despite being way past the intended age group for these books, I've found a kindred spirit of sorts in Nikki Maxwell--the artistic dorky girl who just wants to make friends, survive middle/high school, and stay one step ahead of the school's queen bee and number one bully. While some of the dialogue can get repetitive at times, the artwork to go along with the story more than makes up for it, and makes the plots that much more hilarious (and it's a big step above the stick figures in the aformentioned "Wimpy Kid" books, considering the main character goes to art school in the summer). This time around, Nikki takes a severe bump to the head during gym class, and has a strange dream in which she, her friends Chloe and Zoey, her crush Brandon, and bully Mackenzie all end up playing the roles of classic fairy tale characters. As she tries to find her way back to the real world much like Alice in Wonderland (or Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz), Nikki will help the various strange residents find their own happy endings, and realize there's no place like home. Each book in the series tends to come with its own moral/lesson, whether it's about making friends, the proper way of dealing with bullies and gossip, or sticking up for yourself, and this one's no different. In this case, Nikki learns that sometimes, when life doesn't go the way we want it to, sometimes we have to show some initiative and write the happy ending ourselves. Not only that, but considering how awful her real world day starts, she also learns to take her little sister's antics in stride, and while Brianna can be annoying at times, she DOES mean well. The idea of making the whole book essentially one big April Fool's Day joke was kind of unexpected, and at times, all the various fairy tale cliches could get tiring. Up to this point, I enjoyed Nikki's real world exploits alot more. Thankfully, the ever present moral makes up for it.I'd reccommend this series for ages 8 and up. While there's no mention of drugs, or sex, or swearing, there's other topics that crop up that tend to only be heard by the middle school crowd (such as getting cell phones, throwing wild parties, and first kisses).

My daughter loves Dork Diaries!
Price at time of review: $8.53I have gotten all of the Dork Diaries books for my 10 year old daughter as she first started reading them at school in the school library and really started liking them. It is a really great series for children to read. This particular one is the 8th book in the series. For the price, this book is highly worth it. I have never seen hard cover books cost so little, but every single book in this series are at a great price for hard cover. The pictures inside this book are great as well. The only thing I wish was included was a signature by the author. If you have a younger one that loves to read, this series is definitely worth a shot!

i. have. questions
Hi there. I am a kid and when I found this book on my kindle that was dowloaded by my sister I thought 'I’ll give it a go'. I started reading it, finished it , then relised its a book about a spoilt girl whos always complaing about how 'Omg my life is like the worst thing ever like omg'. Girl let me tell you something. I lived in africa for three years. I’ve seen kids drinking beer because it is cheeper than water, others have polio and are limping across the roads with bent legs. PLEASE don’t waste your time reading this book when you could be saving lives. Nikki is an awful role model and she should stop complaining and see the real word where kids don’t have choices and have to work at seven to feed a family.

Not the best but not the worst…
First of all, I would like to say for every person who said 'oh oh ohh its americanized and I dont understand it!', well here is the thing, the author is American so what do you expect?! For her to write Spanish or French?! Just get over it already! So now about the book, I think that it is a tiny bit repetitive about Nikki alwys saying OMG OMG OMG like her life is about to end or something.By a 10 year old

Dorky Dream!
I have read the dork diaries series since the very beginning. I'm not gonna lie- I just love the drama! this book is admittedly not the best book in the whole series- but hey, it's still pretty good! I did start to feel at one point like I was dragging myself through each sentence, but the plot line soonquickened and we were back in business! please can we have a book that's set like 10 years after the original time and we see Nikki and Brandon married and what kids they have and how they get on, and we see Chloe and zoeys quirky husbands and kids , and maybe see how Mackenzie s getting on?
