This is a great and easy tool to sharpen skates during practice or games. We’ve used them to keep sharp between sharpening appointments, and it’s for sure been helpful on the life of the blades

Our local rink sharpens skates for only $5, so that isn't a big deal, money wise, but I wanted something to help keep that just sharpened feeling a little longer. These do not replace a quality sharpening but make that edge last a lot longer and keep them biting well. Two quick drags along the blade are all I need to feel the ceramic sharpeners hone the edges back to where they should be. It doesn't wear the blade down, as it is basically straightening the outside edge and making it line up the way it should. It probably takes a tiny amount of metal off as you "sharpen" but so does skating on ice. This is part of my routine after skating now, so they will be ready the next time and know that I will be gliding easy around the corners or have plenty of power. I would buy these again. Follow up: On my second season of skating and still using this on my skates, which has kept them in great shape and I haven't need to sharpen them yet. I skate at least twice a week and it keeps the blade in good shape.

Just a beginner at skating but our family of four is taking hockey lessons so I figured this was a good investment to save some money on professional sharpenings. I'm not sure of the science behind this, but it works exactly as advertised. Haven't got back on the ice yet, but with just one or two passes (depending on how dull your blades are) there is a noticeable difference in sharpness. A great tool to have and easy to use! UPDATE: Got on the ice yesterday after swiping this across my blades and definitely noticed a difference. My wife even made mention that her skates felt sharper upon first stepping on the ice. Took a minute to get used to but I found that I feel more comfortable with the sharper blade that this item left me with. Going to continue to use this until it wears out or falls to pieces. Very satisfied!

This is the best for touching up your skates definitely gives them a nice sharp edge

So I has hesitant on this product as I have seen many products try to do similar things back in the late 80s/early 90s which would ruin steel. But I needed a honing stone for my new pair of Pro Stock APX 2s and since I am currently in a area without a skate sharpener that I trust I have to make my sharpening last as long as they can. The sharping on my LS3 steel needed to have a stone go over it a few times to remove the burrs so I did that initially. After a few swipes on each side of each blade it was smooth as silk. I took the skates out for a dry run for about 2 hours and after I got home tried the reedging tool. I was quite impressed with the results as it brought back the same sharpness the blades had before I took them out earlier in the day. I am aware that it in no way can replace a good sharpening but as someone who prefers to have very sharp edges at all times (it helps with being a tall guy on skates) this will allow me to get the most out of my sharpenings.

Très efficace ! La première fois j’ai même trop affûté ! 2 ou 3 passages sur les lames suffisent. Cela permet de prolonger l’ affûtage professionnel ou de le remplacer occasionnellement si on ne trouve pas de service affûtage quand on en a besoin. Bien sûr, l’affûtage professionnel reste la base, ce qui d’ailleurs rendra ce petit affûteur encore plus efficace.

There are several similar products within the skate blade maintenance category of the same basic idea: a v shaped ceramic hone that removes burrs and puts a bit of an edge on a blade. This won't substitute for an actual sharpening but can freshen up edges, or remove rough spots on the outside of the blade. It doesn't get into the hollow. If you need that feature search out the Skate Mate. The feature that I like about this particular model is a small conventional honing stone built into the handle. It is small but is replaceable. A competitor product used to have a larger built in stone (non-replaceble) but changed their design to a separate stone which is easier to lose track of. Members of my family are typically on the ice about 8 times a week so it's a useful tool to pack in a hockey bag.

This skate sharpener does not fit all skates. When you return it you have to pay for the return yourself and the cost is almost as high as the item itself

With no nearby access to anyone that can professionally sharpen skates, this does the trick to last me through the month where we have a seasonal rink for christmas. After which i sent my skates away for professional sharpening. It does not replace a professional sharpen but it definitely gives you that edge back for a good skate.
