Scrabble Deluxe (EA)

I got this as a late birthday present for my mother about a year ago, I'm late writing the review but I still wanted to!My mother is a scrabble addict, She loves scrabble, her favorite version was and old scrabble deluxe that had a board that spun, But this is the age of travel and better designs, I looked at about 30 scrabble games then found this.It's amazing.It folds up and it holds all the parts on storage drawers on the outside, they click in and rarely ever fall out, As someone who is a clutz, Me and her have dropped this on cement, carpet, tile and wood floors, It's been thrown onto bed's and banged while moving it around, there's hardly any scratches on the outside blue plastic, And the game is still completely intact.It stays closed with powerful magnets, although they have enough give that it's still easy to open it, There's wheels located on the outside that when unfolded the game spins perfectly on any flat surface, Left and right, It has the raised grid so the tiles don't slide or anything, And even though it folds, When unfolded the line where it folds does not remotely effect the tiles or anything.I like that it has a handle as well, I do think 50 bucks is alot for a board game, But I also see this lasting through the years, And being something you could easily pass on to children, grandchildren and such, Plus it's great if you want to take scrabble with you when you go either for a sleepover, a campout or anywhere!I couldn't be happier.

After all the tweets and texts, abbreviations, slang and acronyms of daily life, it's wonderful to immerse myself in the world of words. I bought the deluxe version for several reasons. There are slight raised edges around each square, keeping the tiles in place. The board swivels (though rather stiffly) so each player can see it from his or her point of view. There are two drawers to hold the racks, memos, instructions and drawstring bag of tiles. The board folds in half and there's a handle to tote it around. Could it be better? Yes. The racks are translucent and I'd prefer opaque. I'd also prefer the racks to be in different colors instead of identical to avoid confusion when playing in cramped spaces. The wheels that allow the board to swivel are so stiff that you need both hands to carefully turn the board. Most of all, there is no latch to keep the board closed when carrying it, so it can fall open very easily. Overall, though, this is solidly made. I play Scrabble regularly and it stays clean and bright. The outside is plastic and can be washed down, though the board inside is not washable. I remember the old wooden Scrabble sets of my childhood, which were completely indestructible, but were not suitable for travel. This is a very good set to take with you on vacation or a day trip.

I really like that the board is so portable. The wheels on the bottom of the board make it super easy to rotate the board so that it faces each player. Each square has raised borders so no more tiles sliding around. This is the only design of Scrabble board I'll use. The trays in the bottom of the board keep all the little parts organized and still leave room to stick a few scoresheets and pencils in there.

We found that we were pulling out our Scrabble game frequently enough to invest in a new one that spins. The old one had to be manually turned which resulted in letters moving and guessing where they belonged. Not anymore. This feature rich Scrabble game offers up a host of nice pluses and the spin feature is just one of them. One of the brightest spots on this game is the price. Many spinning boards such as the Diamond Anniversary edition, which is essentially the same as this set only in a different color scheme, fetch much higher prices. I saw a wooden one recently that was around $80. I like Scrabble, but I am not trying to make a statement with the board nor do I need a large footprint. The Scrabble Deluxe suits my needs well. It is compact enough, affordable and most importantly it spins (which is not mentioned in the Amazon description).The case opens up to reveal the game which has brightly colored squares. The squares are brighter than the basic Scrabble game but not so bright as to be an eye sore. Two drawers open to reveal space for the directions, the squares which are the traditional Scrabble brownish beige, a bag to hold the squares, curved square holders and extra space for a pen and paper to keep score.When shut the case is fairly compact and ready for storage. It would have been nice if the drawers were slightly larger to hold the popular paperback Scrabble dictionary Amazon also sells but then it may have to have been larger.The product is made of a durable plastic. Overall a great buy if you are looking for a Scrabble game.
