Great "all around" Tone Bar For Lap Steel Guitar
I do have a more expensive tone bar that I like and will continue to use. But this 5.6 oz. Shubb SP-2 has become my favorite. To me, the additional length and weight improves control, tone and comfort in the hand. Also, having different radiuses at the ends helps with single-note play as well as sliding across the strings without catching. Would I buy it again? I did! My wife tried my SP-2 today during her practice time and was impressed enough to say, "Order one of these for me".Obviously, do your own research - but I doubt you could go wrong with this tone bar.

Comfort
Some like a heavy bar, this one is not but it’s not the lightest either. The wood offers a better grip with comfortable application. I especially like the tapered ends that allow me to pinpoint single notes with ease.

Awesome perfect size for larger hands
New to lap steel and the Dunlop lap dawg was recommended. Tried it but it felt awkward and tiny. The description size on this is wrong on Amazon as well as on packaging it came in. It’s 3 inches long and 3/4 inches tall. 1/4 longer and taller than lapdog, huge game changer. Great tone. I also tried the Dunlap long dawg which is the same length but still 1/4 inch shorter in height. Sent both the Dunlop’s back. I doubt you will be disappointed quality product here

Good design, well executed
I've been playing steel guitars for about 40 years. For most of that time, I've used cylindrical, bullet-nosed bars, and I still do for some music on some instruments.About three years ago, arthritis and some new original music caused me to look beyond the bullet. I obtained an original USA-made Shubb-Pearse SP2, and found that it suited my new needs very well. While not as well-suited to conventional forward and reverse slants as the bullet bars, the SP2 proved superior (in MY left hand, at least) for bending strings behind the bar and for split slants. I also discovered that I could make good use of the squared-off end for pulloffs. The original SP2 was chrome-plated brass. After a couple of years of frequent use, the plating began wearing away from gripping surfaces. This did not bother me. Also, the strings had scored fine lines on the playing surface. This did bother me, as the bar made more noise while sliding along the strings.I was pleased to hear that Shubb had begun making the SP2 in stainless steel, but I was reluctant to order one from a musical instrument vendor because of uncertainty as to whether I'd receive a new stainless steel bar or a new old stock chromed brass one. Amazon's unambiguous statement that the SP2 it was offering is made in China removed all doubt that I'd receive a current-production bar. There are small, subtle differences between the stainless and plated brass iterations:- The stainless bar is longer than the brass one (probably by about 2 mm, but I didn't measure) and lighter (154 grams vs. 161).- The sharp edges of the ridges that form the finger groove atop the bar are now flared outward rather than upward.None of the changes in shape made any significant sonic or tactile difference to me, except that the new one may prove to be slightly more comfortable over a long session.Only time will tell whether the stainless SP2 will become as noisy as quickly as the plated brass version did.

Comfortable and easy to hold, but not as nice of a tone.
This is a really nice slide whose comfort makes it a pleasure to play with; however the tone is not quite as clear. Not sure why. Maybe I just feel like a solid steel bar sounds cleaner. Don't know. This bar is lighter with the wood handle. That makes it easier to grip and approach the strings. I use it when I'm trying to play softly (to avoid annoying the spouse). I also use this slide when I'm not playing the resonator guitar, which really amplifies the tonal qualities of the slide. On a regular acoustic guitar (or maybe an electric) the tonal difference isn't noticeable (to me). Also this slide is pretty expensive as far as a piece of metal and wood goes. I prefer a $12 Shubb stainless and chrome knock-off to anything else right now, so the $30 pricetag of this slide makes it sorta a luxury item.

GS1 Shubb Guitar Steel Slide with Hardwood Handle - Stainless Steel
Wow, this is a great tone bar, it fits so comfortable in your hand and never slips out. My other bars will slip out of your hand occasionally but this one doesn’t. It is also a perfect fit, it fits like it’s part of your hand. I love it!

Nice length. Both rounded and square ends
I play a 12-string pedal steel, and wanted something to help make a good Dobro sound. This bar does very well. The extra length allows me to use it as a regular steel, if needed, though it is a little light for that.I appreciate that it has both square and rounded ends. The round ends allow 3-string combination slants, the square end allows me to use the bar as a plectrum. The finish is excellent, without pits or manufacturing dents.

Perfect for me.
First off let me say this is my first Dobro Steel Slide and I haven't been playing all that long. Since I am learning and probably will always be learning, it was essential to me to find at least a decent steel slide at the beginning of the journey. This one fits my hand. That is one of the big concerns in my opinion. It needs to be comfortable. And it is for me. But I understand that it might not be comfortable for everyone. The second concern is how easy it is to move around. I have had no problem with that at all. It lands where I put it and the sound is clear. There is one caution I would like to add. Don't drop it on a slate floor. It is heavy and STEEL. It didn't fall out of my hand. It got knocked off a desktop where I put it after practicing. It didn't even mar the finish on it. The slate floor however.....You won't know until you actually try it, if this is one of the ones for you.
