Do you need to put any sort of additional fluid on the red pads?

They have a liquid “Weld-Aid, Lube- Matic , Wire Kleener and Lubricant” that you can add to the black pads. I’ve been using these for years on my home shop MIG welder. Work great.

How does lubricating the wire not make the feed roller slip?

It doesn't "feel" slippery. I run the black cleaner, and red lubricant slides on my Miller MM 211, and an older/smaller Snap-on MIG. No problem with slipping. I use good wire too.
