Great Resource
This is a great resource for anyone wanting to know more about iris and daylily. Extremely thorough and very well-written. Lots of great background and tons of information for not only a plant expert, but easy enough for a beginner to understand. My only criticism (which would have brought it to a 5 star rating) is that there are no pictures. Suggestions would be the different sub-genres of iris, pictures of divisions, some different varieties, etc.

Starting from Scratch
During the TX deep freeze this past February, all of my Indian Hawthorne died. I decided that since I had to start from scratch perhaps I needed to look more closely at day lilies and iris. I have some iris in one bed and it is thriving.

Just what I needed.
My mother grew flowers, and I grew up with color all around me. But I never gardened, like she did. Now I want to add color to my yard, but don't know how! So glad I found this book! Miranda Hopkins makes everything sound easy, especially with the simple tips she provided. I love how she carefully detailed the history, planting guides, and caring tips of these perennials. One important tip: "Be proactive about keeping your planting beds clean and free of debris."One reason why I'm quite hesitant to grow plants is the bugs, insects, and pests involved. But M.Hopkins explains some easy steps on how to prevent those annoying pests. This book is definitely good for me, the amatuer gardener. It was interesting to learn some history about the flowers, too! Gives me something to talk about when bragging (hopefully!) this year when people notice the new colors in my yard.

Everything you need to know about Daylilies and Irises.
This book is a very in-depth book about the history, care and cultivation of both flowers. Everything you need to know is in this book but what I really enjoyed was the extensive history of the flowers that the author included. I have read quite a few gardening books and they are boring! I was really surprised to find myself getting into the story of the flowers more than the directions and was happy that I not only got what I needed to grow some pretty perennials, but also a very interesting afternoon read on the past uses of the flowers and how different hybrids came to be. There was some extensive research done for this book! It wasn't just thrown together like most kindle "How to" books and I will definitely be looking for this author again if I need any more gardening information.

This has everythingyou could possibly need to do so easily and effectively. It has everythingfrom history, to pest control, to rhizome surgery. As a Botany major, I'm impressed with the quality and scope of this manual. The only thing I would suggest is a few more of the gorgeous pictures - Irisesare beautiful...let's see some more sprinkled throughout the text. Thanks!!

Not great-but I still love iris!
Basic info , useful as a handbook for iris newbies like myself. I thought the writing style was rather stilted and was surprised at the number of misspellings and incorrect syntax. Did the publisher not have any proofreaders?
