Pay no attention to objections to the scent. It's fabulous soap.
Good value. Several large bars of soap, the best I've found among those that avoid coconut oil (and thus mold). Even without sodium laurel sulfate, it lathers. There's nothing wrong with the scent. It's fine. In fact I wish it lasted longer.

Simple ingredients. Very good.
I love this soap. It has a small, simple list of ingredients. It is effective, without the chemical. 5 STARS!!

It really does smell rancid :(
I wanted so badly to love this soap. I am a longtime olive-oil-soap fan, and until now I always bought it locally in shops in town, where you can smell it right there before buying. I am VERY familiar with the way olive oil soap is supposed to smell. It is different than most other soaps, that is true, and does take a little getting used to, but the thing is that it smells GOOD. The brand I loved was made by Antioche, but my local shops don't seem to be carrying it any more and I can't find the company that made it anywhere online, so I thought Well I'll try another brand and get it from Amazon. So I started researching reviews here on Amazon, and noticed that a lot of people mentioned a horrible smell. The answer from the various companies seemed to be "People don't understand that it smells different from perfumed modern soaps." So when I read of people having problems with what they described as a bad smell, I thought first, "well, maybe they just don't understand it doesn't smell like perfume," and I thought next, "maybe they got a bad batch that had spoiled in the warehouse. I'll probably be lucky and get a recent batch; they've had time to replace the rancid ones by now."Well, folks, I'm here to tell you.... believe them. BELIEVE THEM. it really does smell very, very, V.E.R.Y. bad. I mean really. It smells like rancid oil or gas or something, some kind of horrible chemical stink. I can not stress how horrific this stink is. It was not so bad at first when I first opened the box... I thought to myself, "Okay maybe it's a bit sour but that smell will probably wear off..." Not only did it not wear off, the stink got worse every day it sat in the bathroom. I tried to use it and noticed a bitter, sharp after-taste in my mouth after washing my face. Proper olive oil soap tastes a little soapy but pleasant... not like this. Then came the moment of horror.... the realization that that smell, that stench, was going to cling to ME all day long. People have noticed and complimented me on my old olive oil soap, the good kind.... I can not imagine what people will think/imagine/assume if they get a whiff of THIS smell! The kind people at Amazon, who have the world's BEST customer service, accepted my return even though I had tried to use one bar. Back go the other four bars, and I packed them up so fast I was still on the phone talking to the nice Customer Service lady when they were out of the house and ready to go... on the front porch. Not in here.I'm sorry. I really am. I wanted to love this soap. I will have to keep searching.
