Ricoh Theta M15 360 Degree Spherical Panorama Camera (Blue)

This is a fun little camera that has a few critical flaws, making it far from ready for mass audiences.Some specific gripes:1) As others have stated, the image quality is fairly low rez. Adjusting the ISO/exposure helps, but the images produced are still pretty grainy. I get that this is still a very advanced camera and I imagine it's tough to get 360 degrees in high rez, but it's still worth noting.2) The way you need to connect to the camera in order to use the remote shutter is VERY annoying. You need to sign into the unit's onboard wifi, and the password is printed on the base of the unit (making it annoying once you've already rigged it to a tripod). Further, if you want to post pictures or send them after you take them, you'll have to switch back to another WiFi or use cellular data. Bluetooth would be a much easier connection method, though I'll admit I do not know the tech implications of this request.3) If you want to fine tune any of the camera settings (ISO, shutter speed, exposure, etc) the process is a but cumbersome. You need to adjust in the app, take the picture, wait for the picture to sync to the phone, re-adjust, repeat. I wish there were a way to see the settings in real time (i.e. there were some sort of live viewfinder when fine-tuning the settings). Again, I'll admit I don't know if this is possible tech-wise.4) The camera is very tough to sit on a table without it toppling over. I imagine that the unit needs to be slim and narrow in order to disappear from the resulting pictures, but it is very cumbersome, and I can see this being an issue for long term care of the lens and body.5) Even though the unit is slim and narrow, I still see a sliver of the camera in all my pictures. That seems like a design flaw, and I probably would have chosen a different body color had I known it would be in all the pictures.6) There is no way to extend the storage size via memory card, etc.Given the price of the unit and the above mentioned shortcomings, I would only recommend this camera if you just want to have some fun playing around, or if you have a specific need for spherical images. Otherwise, I'd wait until the technology improves greatly.

Pros: Extremely fast Photosphere captures and true spherical video. You can pan up, down, left, right and zoom in/out on both spherical photos and video (even while it is playing)Cons: Not high definition. Also, at this time, uploading to Ricoh's website is the only way to get your spherical video online to share, and you can only upload 10 seconds of video (but you can record up to 3 minutes of video per recording session)I bought this with the hope that this model would be HD since it now records video, but am slightly disappointed with the image quality. It is decent resolution, but highly degraded in low light. I do however try to keep my expectations in check understanding that this is a one-of-a-kind product, and they will continue to get better with subsequent models.What I love about it already is the ease of use and speed of captures. Taking a picture, or a video is as easy as pushing a button or tapping my smartphone screen. Within seconds, the image is transferred to my device for viewing. My wife likes that she is no longer embarrassed to be seen with me in public. She would often leave me alone, spinning around in multiple circles as I took the 20-30 photos needed for a Photosphere with my Android.This weekend I went to Best Buy and bought a Monopod. I did not want to buy it online because I wanted to make sure that the base could screw into a mini tripod. I've always been fascinated with full 360 panoramas, and this makes it very easy to shoot them.My biggest complaint is the lack of any ability to embed the photos in blogs, facebook, or emails. Ricoh is willing to host the photos, but they want links back to their site so they can plaster advertising all around your photo (doesn't everyone want that now).I have been shooting allot of video and posting on Youtube, and that is much more interesting. I'd post a link to a video but I'm sure it would get squashed. If you search for 360video and theta on youtube I'm sure you'll find some.I bought a RAM suction cup mount for my bike, and mount the Theta on the mirror. It works surprisingly well as a mount point. My biggest problem is that I have to actually stop to turn the camera on or off, then link my iphone to the camera before I can take pictures or videos, and you can't switch between camera mode and video mode without turning the camera off and back on. It's no where near as smooth as using a GoPro camera. Plus the batteries don't last long if you try to keep it on between photos.The price is well worth what it can do.

Su può riscontrare qualche problema nel collegamento allo smartphone ma niente di persistente. Basta collegare prima il dispositivo e dopo aprire l' applicazione. La guida all' interno spiega tutto.La fotocamera è di buona fattura. Tuttavia consiglio di utilizzare un buon cavalletto perché è facile danneggiare la lente se dovesse cadere, pena la rovina di tutto il dispositivo.Scatta foto di buona qualità ed è possibile regolare anche l' esposizione o l' illuminazione.Lo ricomprerei senza problemi.

Die zweite Auflage von Ricoh's Vollsphärischer Kamera ist ein absolutes Nischenprodukt. Jeder der diese Kamera kauft sollte sich genau bewusst sein zu welchem Zweck er diese Spezialkamera kauft.Ich mache seit über 15 Jahren sowohl traditionelle Panoramafotografie als auch virtuelle Touren, da ist die Theta eine interessante Erweiterung meiner Sammlung, auch wenn sie nicht unbedingt für Anwendungsfälle in Betracht kommt, in denen hohe Auflösung oder Qualität notwendig sind. Für mich eine Spass Kamera, oder wenn ich schnell mal ein einfaches Panorama machen möchte ohne viel Aufwand mit Stativ und Stitching/Postprocessing. Für reine Webanwendungen sowieso ausreichend.In einem Satz: Die Kamera macht ein virtuelles Panoramabild (auch kubisches Panorama genannt) mit einer 360x180 Grad Abdeckung, diese Bilder kann man mit entsprechenden Viewern in Internetbrowser anschauen, aka als wäre man dabei, erlaubt man dem Betrachter in alle Richtungen zu schauen.Diese virtuellen Touren kennt man üblicherweise von Hotel oder Immobilienseiten.(Videos kamen als Erweiterung bei der m15 hinzu)Erstaunlich, dass Ricoh wagt ein so spezielles Gerät im Consumer-Bereich anzubieten. Es gibt einige aktuelle Projekte auf Crowdfunding Portalen, die ähnliche Kameras anbieten.Ich denke es eine Fun Kamera, da der Markt mit Immobilenmaklern die ein solches Gerät nutzen überschaubar ist.299 Euro ist ein guter Preis, vor 15 Jahren hatte ich ein Gerät mit über 10.000 Euro das im Prinzip das gleiche erledigt (mit wesentlich mehr Aufwand, aber auch mit höherer Qualität).Wichtig:- Ohne Zubehör wird die Kamera zum Uber-Selfie Gerät, da man zwangsläufig auf jedem Bild erscheint. Die Kamera hat neben dem Einschaltknopf (und dem Wireless Knopf) nur den Auslöser und Bilder ohne Mobiltelefon werden mit Standard-Einstellungen geschossen.- Mobiltelefefon (Android, iPhone), Mini-Stativ und/oder Selfie Stick sollte man also dabeihaben wenn man Panorama ohne sich selbst machen möchte.- Die Tasche sollte man ebenfalls immer dabeihaben, da die Kamera sowohl vorne als auch hinten ein Objektiv hat, kann sie man nicht hinlegen ohne auf Dauer Kratzer zu verursachen.- Nur die Bilder, die in der Theta gespeichert sind, haben die volle Auflösung ! Die Bilder auf dem Mobiltelefon sind reduziert,- Bei direkter Sonneneinstrahlung sollte man vermeiden ein Objektiv zur Sonne und eines komplett abgewandt auszurichten. Die Kamera generiert dann oft 2 zu unterschiedliche Bilder, die dann im Gesamtbild nicht zusammenpassen.Negativ:- Die Kamera speichert nur JPG.- Rauschen bei ISO 200 und 400.- Die Kamera ist anfällig für Reflexionen (gerade bei direkter Sonneneinstrahlung), was allerdings in der Natur dieser Objektive liegt, auch ein 800 Euro Sigma 8mm Fisheye Objektiv hat dieses Problem)- Das online Portal erfordert einen FB oder Twitter Account, sonst kann man die Panoramas nicht auf der Ricoh Gallery online stellen. Sonst manuell über Google View oder ähnliche Plattformen.- Für Entwickler: Das Developers kit ist noch in Beta, die volle Funktionalität lässt sich bis jetzt nur begrenzt nutzen. Wird sich wohl ändern mit neuen Versionen des SDK.

Very much a pricey toy and is very easy to use

3 Sterne stehen ja für "nicht schlecht" - und dies ist in der Tat meine Meinung zu diesem innovativen Produkt.Innovativ ist es allerdings nicht an sich - man stelle sich einfach zwei dünne Handys vor, die man mit den Vorderseiten aneinander klebt. Nicht mehr und nicht weniger liefert die Kamera, und die Software stitcht dann die beiden Fotos zu einem sphärischen Panorama zusammen. Die Technik (Hardware und Software) existiert bereits, zum Teil weitaus besser (s. unten)...Innovativ ist, dass es in der Kombi es bisher außer Ricoh noch niemand SO zusammengesteckt hat!!!Der Teufel liegt im Detail bzw. der sicherlich auch physisch bedingten Leistungsfähigkeit. So wie man auch bei Handys keine Bilder erwarten kann, die den spiegeligen und spiegellosen Systemkameras trotzen könnten [großer Sensor für viele Pixel und gutem Detail, ganz zu schweigen ISO-Festigkeit - und dementsprechend (die Physik oder besser, Optik, muss da leider auch noch ein Wörtchen mitreden) große, aus dem Gehäuse ragende Objektive], darf man auch bei der Theta keine Fotos erwarten, die man sich ausdrucken oder auf einem HD-Bildschirm anschauen würde. Für's spielen mit dem Finger auf einem Handydisplay reicht es, und dafür funktioniert auch die App (Android oder iMist) richtig gut - aber das war's dann auch schon.Vielleicht müssen noch 1-2 Generationen vergehen, ehe die Optik und der Sensor sowie die Interna dahingehend verbessert werden, dassa) bessere Auflösung auch beim Zoomen Spaß bringtb) selbst bei schlechteren Lichtbedingungen oder zuhause im Zimmer die Bildquali nicht zerbröselt wird durch das ISO-Rauschen (übrigens, man kann in der App umstellen auf ISO-Priorität, und wenn man da strikt bei ISO 100 bleibt, sind die Bilder ganz gut - dafür muss man dann aber je nach Lichtverhältnisse ziemlich still halten oder noch besser, ein Mini-Stativ verwenden!)c) mehr als nur schlichte 3 Minuten als Video aufgenommen und am besten direkt (auch in der App - das geht nämlich noch nicht!) betrachtet werden können.Wenn dann noch ein kleines Infodisplay dazu käme, damit man nicht immer raten muss, ob grad Fotos oder Videos aufgenommen werden (hierfür wäre ein extra Schalter ebenfalls kein besonderer Luxus, zumal man jetzt über eine Tastenkombi nur in den Modus kommt...) UND ob überhaupt grad das Video läuft oder nicht, wieviel Zeit noch bleiben, wie's um den (leider nicht wechselbaren!!!) Akku bestellt ist etc... wäre ich sicherlich glücklicher gewesen und hätte die Theta vielleicht trotz der Qualitätsprobleme und des in meinen Augen für ein Nischenprodukt doch recht hohen Preises behalten.So bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass Ricoh nachbessert. Ich behalte die Produktlinie im Auge, und würde mich nicht wundern, wenn daraus in 5 Jahren absoluter Standard wird bei Handys z.B....!Wegen der Innovation und weil es ein weitaus tolleres, simpleres und schnelleres Spiel ist, als 8 Aufnahmen mit einem Fisheye auf einer echten Kamera zu machen und dann über 2-3 Programme (Bildverbesserung bis hin zu den Kolor Pano-Programmen) eine Flash Panorama-Animation erzeugen, verdient der kleine Stick definitiv 3 Sterne.

Ich hatte mich vorher umfassend informiert und mir war klar, dass die Qualität nicht die beste ist - erst recht, wenn man PhotoSpheres von einem Android-Smartphone gewöhnt ist. Allerdings benötigen diese eben ca. 1 Minute zum Knipsen der einzelnen Fotos und dann nochmal 2 Minuten bis das Bild fertig ist. Und bewegte Objekte kann man so schonmal überhaupt nicht festhalten. Ganz zu schweigen von 360°-Videos.Genau dafür ist die Theta-Kamera gemacht worden. Schnelle 360°-Knipsfotos und -videos. Und das macht sie hervorragend. Zusammen mit einem  Stativfuß  und passendem  Monopod  kann man wunderbare Fotos machen, ohne, dass die eigenen Finger einen Großteil des Fotos ausmachen. Die Fernauslösung geschieht dabei über die Theta-App vom Smartphone aus. (Oder eine kompatible andere App.)Bei der offiziellen App ist noch zu beachten, dass die Fotos, die man damit von der Kamera lädt, nicht die volle Qualität haben. Die Kamera schießt Fotos in 3584x1792, die App lädt aber eine verkleinerte Version mit 2048x1024. Unter Android kann man aber mit der App "Theta Transfer beta" die Fotos in voller Auflösung drahtlos übertragen. Oder eben am PC per Kabel.Den nervigen Quietschton beim Knipsen kann man mit der Android-App "ThetaZero" dauerhaft abschalten.Einziges kleines Manko: Videos können nur mit max. 3 Minuten am Stück aufgenommen werden und müssen auch noch umfangreich am PC mit der Theta-Anwendung umgewandelt werden, bevor man ein brauchbares Format erhält, was auch YouTube versteht. Die Anwendung gibt's auch nur für Windows oder Mac, so dass Linux-Nutzer außen vor stehen. Und in einer Windows-VM kann die Theta-Anwendung die Grafikkarte nicht nutzen und wandelt die Videos besonders langsam. Auch das Hochladen von Videos von unterwegs - ohne Zwischenschritt über einen PC - ist so natürlich nicht möglich. Ach, und die Qualität von Videos ist äußerst bescheiden, denn diese haben nur 1920x1080 statt der vollen 3584x1792 Pixel.Insgesamt bin ich aber trotzdem sehr zufrieden mit der Theta m15 und meine bessere Hälfte ist glücklich, dass sie im Urlaub nicht mehr ewig darauf warten muss, dass ich die PhotoSpheres knipse. Außerdem hoffe ich, dass Ricoh genug von den Kameras verkauft, um weiter daran zu arbeiten und eine verbesserte Version auf den Markt zu bringen. StativfußMonopod
