DIY Watercolor Flowers: The beginner’s guide to flower painting for journal pages, handmade stationery and more

This book in my opinion may not be the first you would want to buy as a beginner. Maybe it’s just me but I find florals challenging. In this book she shares many techniques like choosing a palette, mixing colors, gradation, and contrast. She shares lots of beautiful projects from cards to framed art. I’m working my way thru it very slowly as a beginner.

Absolutely LOVE this book. It's is utter eye candy. Although every art book has a section about paints and colours in the front, I found this very useful as I have been interested in the Sennelier Watercolour brand and now get to use it with full instructions. Please note that this is not a book for realistic floral paintings but it is a loose style and clearly states its a 'Beginners' guide. I love the section on composition as that's something I always struggle with. The book is laid out beautifully and the explanations are well done. Any beginner would love to have this book. From here you can only expand your knowledge base and start creating your own colour palette and floral styles. Would definitely recommend it.

This lovely book offers good step by step instructions on painting flowers in a loose style. It's not a guide to realistic botanical painting but it is fun for an advanced beginner or intermediate watercolor hobbyist. The author advocates using pan watercolors for the lessons in the book, but if you have and know how to use tube paints this is no obstacle. She does have some idiosyncratic choices for colors - among her personal essentials are indigo and carmine red, neither of which I would expect in a begginer's palette. But every artist has favorites! The biggest downside for me, as an older reader with imperfectly corrected vision, is the very tiny type size. I had to struggle a bit to read it. Nevertheless I am enjoying the book.

Great book! I am trying to paint various types of flowers with watercolors. This is perfect to learn how to paint them beautifully. I'm so glad I bought this.

I’ve bought a lot of watercolor instruction books lately and this is definitely my favorite for flowers! The book starts off with paint colors and mixing. Author includes specific names/brands of paint but also encourages you to use what you have. There are some “getting used to watercolor” exercises. A few are repeats from most books (making swatches and gradients) but some exercises were new to me & look fun. Next is the section on painting specific flowers. I included the pictures of the two pages on Roses so you can see the different positions she demonstrates. I also included picture of the table of contents so you can see what specific flowers are covered. There is a small section covering leaves and foliage. The second half of the book is about making full design compositions such as painting a bouquet or a frame of flowers. These are more advanced pages once someone has learned the flower shapes. I hope the pictures help you decide if this book is for you!

I like this book because it really is a Beginners Guide. In the beginning, the author talks about such things as the different paints, brushes, and papers and gives you her suggestions on each. Then she takes you through making a color chart and the various methods to use in changing the colors - values, saturation, etc. She also has lessons on several techniques such as wet and dry brush painting, diffusion and others. There are exercises that follow each topic she covers. When she teaches you to draw several kinds of flowers, the instructions are simple with step-by-step pictures for each that take you from start to finish. There's a nice surprise at the end of the book with several projects to try using what you learned from her book. I highly recommend this book. I'll be looking for other books by this same author to take me further along in learning more about watercolor painting.

A great gift or purchase for any one who enjoys painting and art. This book shows you the techniques for painting and creating different flowers. Do not buy it if you dont have watercolours or watercolour paper at hand. If buying it as a gift, be sure to include the paper and paints too

Beautiful and simple instructions on how to paint watercolour flowers, the basic techniques, a plant directory and floral compositions that you can follow with large clear photos. Shipping took over a week which is standard and was able to track. Recommend if a beginner to watercolour painting.

Simple guidance , more or less like sharing experiences, is easy to understand. A lot of the illustrated pictures are used in this book, which I find quite helpful.
