It's a RC excavator, no need hydraulic oil, the battery is included.

sound card quit working

Not sure what the sound card is but if the speaker came un soldered then resolver it and should be good although it just kills battery faster. Hope this helps and good luck

Are the drive and bucket controls proportional?

Yes they are the bucket is more so than the drive but yes both are. You can see it in action on my YouTube channel. SoFlo RcLife 👍🏼

the movement of the wheels is progressive? does it have a potentiometer?

The wheels do have some speed control. The farther you move the control lever the faster it will move. The speed does not change very much.
