Dupli-Color EBSP30700 Clear Coat Matte Paint Shop Finish System

I used this to paint a Honda VTX, and I'm really happy with the results. Warning: this is lacquer paint, and it can react with any non-lacquer paints, especially if the paint isn't real old. Use the lacquer primer with this system. I didn't take my bike down to bare metal, and it caused a few small reactions with this paint. It sprays very easily, and isn't inclined to run, which makes it a great option if you're doing this for the first time, like I was. I didn't do a real great job of spraying, and I think my needle was too small (1.2mm), but after wet sanding and buffing, it came right to life. Warning: don't overuse acetone to thin this clear. I tried to stretch the last little bit by thinning it some with acetone, and it fogged my final coat of clear. It did improve after several hours, but the places I sprayed the overly thinned product don't look as good as the rest of the panels. I used one can for my bike, and that was plenty to wet sand, cut, and buff.

Great product works exactly as advertised.

This product is easy to use. I would however not recommend for entire vehicle use. The clear dries extremely fast lending it to create a great deal of overspray.

I'm by no means an expert and learned how to spray these over the last week so keep that in mind. The Bad: I sprayed the two quarts of Championship White, ½ quart of Performance Red along with 2 quarts of gloss clear right from the can to the gun without any product issues. Anything that went wrong was due to me and not the product. I was hoping to wrap up this project and opened the 3rd quart of Gloss Clear and noticed it was cloudy/foggy. Hoping it wasn’t going to cause any issue I tested it on a small area and sure enough I noticed the Performance Red turning what looked to be more pinkish. I’m guessing whatever was wrong with this quart reacted with Performance Red and it discolored it and/or made it cloudy. I waited for it to dry and re-shot that area with another coat of Performance Red and then got my refund on Amazon for the quart. I’ll use that money to go to my local AutoZone to pick one up today so I can finish this project rather than wait and see if I receive another defective fogged quart from Amazon. I couldn’t find a vendor to contact to let them know that their warehouse stock may be defective. My comparison to Rust Oleum rattle cans I have been using rattle cans for years with pretty good results (I wouldn’t paint a car with them but my smaller household items look very nice) but wanted to give this type of paint (Entry level pre-thinned “Automotive”) a try and wanted to see if there was a significant difference between it and rattle cans. Short story - I'm going back to rattle cans. It's an okay finish but following three coats of Gloss Clear (I did not sand/buff and polish) it’s not better than what I can do with the Rust Oleum products and I don't usually top coat them with their gloss clear nor do I sand/buff/polish them. I have used gloss clear and then they look even better. Maybe with more practice I could improve the output for the lacquer but what really bugs me is that ton of clean-up is needed to clean the gun, it's messy pouring from a quart can and then the dirty lacquer thinner that you use to clean up needs to be disposed of properly. With a rattle can you just throw it away. Obviously, there are shortcomings with a rattle can but the convenience and clean-up is why I'm going back to them, as well as cost. I wish Rust Oleum had the same color choices in a lacquer paint as they do for enamel (Which takes soooo much longer to dry than lacquer - definitely a positive for lacquer paints but the lack of color choices is another negative). The other thing is the cost of the lacquer paint and other items needed (Lacquer thinner, paint strainers, lots of paper towels, etc). The project I did as a test I have done before using rattle cans. Two rattle cans of red and four cans of white for under $40. This Dupli-Color lacquer was over $100 more just in paint, not including the additional supplies! I really wanted to like this spray process over the rattle cans but I’m heading back to Rust Oleum.

Always loved the way Dupli-color laid on and it's rich color and the spray tip on the can so unique I save them for those other cheap cans when I have to use them to save in tight budget days which is another story of my life and too sad to mention so back to the paint it sprays out of my Binks HVLP gun so good right out of the can I can only say it's even better than their best in the business spray cans and I could hardly believe that I could paint that good on my first try with a spray gun on my first vehicle. Look out I might paint it.

Please take note this Dupli-Color "paint shop" is not true lacquer. This has no hardener nor uv protection built in. When I was younger lacquer paint had Lead yes lead and was a good painting system. You could spray and have rough areas and simply rub them out and end up with a good job. I ordered this system to paint a car for a friend as a favor. I usually use a BASF LIMCO base-clear system but wanted to give this system a shot as it was ¼ the price. Like I said it isn’t lacquer it’s some type of vinyl paint in lacquer thinner. It sprays like crap if it’s too hot or humid. The paint does not sand well either well wet sanding with 800-1000-1200 progressively the paint kept rolling into hard balls causing scratching. It does not cover well to get it to blend you need to reduce it farther and still it looks like terrible. If you are in the south this will bleach within 2 years it will not stand up to the elements. Do yourself a favor spend a few extra dollars and purchase a descent base-clear or enamel system

As advertised Ready to spray,no mixing and drys quickly so no re-coating window.It is very easy to apply. Delivery was prompt.

Not bad. when you first spray it on its almost matt ( spary about 4 coats). Dont freak out! You have to sand with 1500 grit wet sand then buff with buffing compound and it comes out realllly glossy. Just a lot of work to get that glossy finish!
