Excellent Quilting Resource
I bought this as a gift for a friend who just began quilting. Then I bought it for myself after I looked at hers even thought I have been machine quilting for some years. It is a really good resource and there are even patterns in it. The pictures are really clear.

Poorly Organized for Beginning Quilters
Last week, I made my first quilt from a paper piecing kit. I had read through a couple of excellent 'absolute beginner' books, including Quilt With Confidence by Nancy Zieman and Quilting for the first time by Donna Kooler. Both these books were VERY straightforward in teaching the beginner the basics. I found that the Quilting Bible started off strong, with some valuable information about determining the size of a project, batting, backing, etc. But it then went head-on into projects, thus burying techniques into projects. I needed help on techniques, and this book just was confusing--even with the step-by-step photos. I needed the instructions on how to execute a pieced paper pattern, and I couldn't find it either in the directions for the quilts detailed in the book NOR in the index. It was disappointing. The Nancy Zieman book was an excellent beginner book, with really great, clever techniques on how to build quilt blocks. However, the book also didn't showcase the paper (foundation) piecing technique. The Kooler book did, and I was able to use both the Kooler book and then a combo of The Quilting Bible and Quilt With Confidence to determine how to create the quilt 'sandwich', pin to secure the layers, quilt, and put a binding on. The result? A successful first quilt.I think that as I advance, The Quilting Bible will be a great reference on how to put together complex blocks. But for now, I find it to be more frustrating than instructional. Absolute Beginners should look to friendlier books prior to purchasing this one.

Disappointed
I'm new to quilting and fairly new to sewing in general. While the instructions will take you from the very first stages to finishing a quilt, it's not actually a comprehensive guide to quilting techniques. When a book calls itself a "bible" I expect it to cover everything, whether I'm ever likely to need it or not, and this really stops somewhere around the intermediate level of technique and totally leaves out the more advanced. I was specifically hoping for a discussion of hexagon piecing, for example, this book only discusses English paper piecing, which is only one method of several and not the one I was hoping to have explained.Note that it does not discuss hand sewing at all, this is entirely about machine sewing and quilting, come hell or high water. Annoyingly, it does include instructions like, "slipstitch by hand," without explanation or adequate illustration. If I want to know what a slipstitch is, I have to find it in a general sewing instruction book, and then guess how that's supposed to relate to my quilt. On top of all that, the sample projects are just ugly. I'm really not feeling inspired to copy any patterns from this book.I'm planning to order The Quilter's Bible instead, which I didn't like as much in preview, but which looks much better in person.

Very good resource for any level quilter
I bought this product after seeing a copy a friend owns. The book shows ways to take each step in the quilt making project. It also offers some interesting quilts and blocks. There are directions for quilt blocks and whole quilts. My one criticism is that the directions leave you a little short unless you have taken basic quilt making to learn things like "square up the blocks at this point". BUt knowing that, the book is very helpful. I reach for it a lot when doing different projects.

My mom has quilted in the past and isn't new to it but she said there was still so much useful information for her in this book
I got this book as a gift for my Mom and she told me that she loves it! My mom has quilted in the past and isn't new to it but she said there was still so much useful information for her in this book. She said she would recommend it to anyone who is new to quilting or experienced!

A true bible for quilters
There are a number of books for quilters entitled Bible, however I feel this one truly is what it says. Fabulous projects, hints, different ideas, gorgeous pictures and clear instruction. If you only ever buy one Quilting Bible make it this one. I will be using it for advice, ideas and colour matching. Worth it's weight in gold.

heavy
I've only given this book a 3 star it's a good enough book but quite out of date, I had this book but because of this I gave it to the charity shop and have now spent £17 on the same book with a different cover.I looked inside and saw one or two different things so that's what made me buy it.
