Does this feeder work with mixed bird seed? Or only with black oil sunflower seed?

I buy mixed wild bird seed from Costco. I have Cardinals,Jays, Gold finches, yellow finches, morning doves, sparrows,chickadees,Grackles..and they can't get the sunflower seeds out.They try but give up .😞

Is this supposed to be squirrel proof?

Nothing is squirrel proof, but I have hung my feeder off a hook away from a bush where they will try to jump off and with a baffle 5 ft up so they can't run up the pole. I read where squirrels can jump 5 ft up and 10 ft out , so you have to make it squirrel proof where they can't jump to it. I have fun watching the squirrels trying to figure how to get to my feeder. But none have. As long as I don't get flying squirrels. LOL

I have a problem with morning doves eating the safflower seed that I put out for cardinals. Does anyone know if doves can sit on this feeder.

I get mourning doves as well as other doves along with many other birds. I don’t mind any of the smaller ones sharing the feeder with the cardinals as they don’t seem to mind the smaller birds but what I have started doing for the doves and blue jays is I sprinkle seeds on the ground for them. It keeps them off the feeder and I don’t mind feeding them because I like watching them all.

Does this feeder keep the grackles and other bully black birds away?

Seems to keep bigger birds away. It will not keep squirrels away if they can get to it. Also it is hard for cardinals to get the black oiled sunflower seed out of the mesh. I am going to replace mine with a homemade feeder. In short it is not as Cardinal friendly as the ad portrays.
