Obviously one has to have at least some initial interest in trees to watch or read either, but I found most of it to be new and fascinating information. I now have a much greater interest in and awareness of trees. Review: A must read in my opinion - The author describes his work and the knowledge he gained as a forester. He writes well and I wish I had read this book as a teenager or child. We have no idea of the amazing ways trees communicate. It helps bring awareness to the importance of biodiversity in a very understandable way and expand our understanding of nature and how it is working for all of us. Anther author, Meg Loman, in the "arbornaut" helps us realize the biodiversity that has yet to be discovered and what scientific breakthroughs are coming as a result of her work. Each book has a different focus but together they connect a lot of dots of understanding

This book will open your mind to the trees in your yard to the trees and life in the forsest.
At first I thought this book had been written at an 8th grade or lower level. But as it progressed I got used to the writing style (it was translated from German) and it seemed to improve. I love hiking and camping and walking in the woods. I'd been curious about the plants and animals but never had it occurred to me that plants, trees in this case, communicated with each other; too care of the young and those that had been felled by lightning or chainsaw, and all that the different species of trees endured over their life times. I live in the high desert of New Mexico, on a mesa that was formed by lava flow hundreds of thousands of years ago. I now regret planting individual trees in my yard. I'd always wondered why my cottonwood grew differently from those near the Rio Grande. Now I know it's because it didn't have the benefit of "parent" trees, and the other trees in my yard are Ash trees that probably don't communicate well with others. Excellent read - a distilled version of this book would be an excellent addition to a schools library!

Great book. Well written. Now I want to visit the forest! Interesting information on how trees communicate. You'll never look at a tree the same way!

Appreciation for Trees
I was a little reluctant to read a book about trees but found it rather fascinating. I have a new found appreciation for trees, not just for their beauty, but for how they live and thrive and provide for each other even after death. A community that we, as humans, could learn from. The care and dependence that coexists among trees teaches us how to survive and thrive on earth.
