Bulky Seam Aid

An amazing little accessory for dealing with bulky seams and definitely a must have. As very much a novice with a sewing machine I did manage to miss use it at the start and put it at the front of the foot thinking it would work like a bit of a sledge, it doesn't and I managed to put the needle straight through it as it chewed it up and made a mess of the stitching. However a quick search on the internet and I found out how to use it. Just lift the foot up when you get to a bulky seams, place this in behind and drop the foot down and it will easily pop you over and then it falls out once you have cleared it. Easy! It comes with two ends that are of different thickness so should cover all needs. It is built well for being just a lump of plastic and is thick and thin where it needs to be. As I said I did manage to sew the needle right through the middle part but this was definitely user error but they might have preempted this and the plastic is thinner in the middle. I now have a nice little hole in mine but the needle didn't snap. I would definitely recommend having one as it just makes sewing life a lot easier, just don't be as daft as I was and put it at the front of the foot!

OMG this little piece of plastic is a TOTAL game changer 🙌 I am making a duffle bag and trying to see over the chunky zip with the depth of the fabric and batting has been sooo frustrating😖 No more, thanks to this incredible bulky seam aid. It is a simple concept that works when you need to see thick seams. It keeps the foot level so the stitches remain the same length when top stitching. It seemed a lot of effort but once I used it I would always use it

Wow, this little piece of plastic looks nothing. Until of course you start to sew and come to a thick part of your fabric trying to get underneath the foot of your sewing machine and that’s where this little gadget comes into its own. I couldn’t believe how easy it made my job of sewing Thick fabric and trying to get it under the foot of my sewing machine. It really comes into its own so it may look a harmless little bit of plastic but it does a mighty job.

Works exactly as it's supposed to, used this for putting hem on jeans, and worked perfectly over that bulky part on seam. Would highly recommend..

It needs to be wider for different types of presser foot, too. Better than struggling without but, we’re working on an alternative made of wood or resin. It needs to have a less smooth surface to help with fabric running.

I tried to make one of these out of cardboard, having seen one used on youtube. It was ok, but really just convinced me I should buy the real thing :). Glad I did, it makes life so much easier!!! I sew or hem a lot of jeans and denim and this really helps my poor old machine get over the hump. Would highly recommend to anyone who sews on a machine, whether vintage or modern.
