is a terrible disappointment. Out of the box the mechanism did ...
I have three Howard Miller pendulum clocks and one mantle clock, and until I purchased this one, I never had a complaint. This one, however, is a terrible disappointment. Out of the box the mechanism did not work correctly, and the sound of the chimes was unpleasant and discordant. A local authorized repair shop was able to put the mechanism in order, but the sound of the chimes remains truly unfortunate. Howard Miller makes many fine clocks, but this is not one of them.

Monster wall clock. Mounting is not easy.
This clock is a heavy one. I am writing a review to let people know that this clock needs very sound mounting on your wall. Please consider that before purchase. It actually says on the back of the clock that they are assuming that you know that this clock needs mounting on the wall to be done properly. I suppose if your clock falls off the wall due to inadequate mounting, forget about trying to return it.The back of the clock also mentions some mounting options on the clock. I did not see anything other than the "finger hole" on the back. There is a little place for a screw to be driven into the wall just below the clock mechanism. I'd suggest making use of that. This clock is very heavy and holding it up to mount on the wall is not for the weak of arms. I had to hold it upright, making sure to hit my mouting bracket perfectly. Not easy. Make sure that your mounting is very secure as you'll be opening the clock to wind it periodically and the door takes some effort to open so you don't want to essentially pull the clock off the wall trying to open the case. With all that said, I must say this is an extremely well made and solid clock that will last for generations to come. The only thing I noticed is that the finish on the very top panel of the clock was not that well finished, the wood was a little rough. Can't say that matters as it is not visible when mounted. The effort to wind the clock is firm, more so even that my grandfather clock.Once you have it on your wall you'll really be impressed. This is a true and real deal. It will really add prestige and decorum to the room that is luck enough to have this clock.

Stunning Clock
This New Haven clock is simply a stunning clock. I purchased this model in July 2014 on a popular auction site - it was used but in perfect condition and was about half the cost of new. This model was first introduced by Howard Miller in 1998 - mine was made in 2000 and still is in perfect condition. The wood is very nice - it actually has a little reddish/brown tint - not a classic brown as it appears in the stock photos. The pendulum is large and is a nice brushed brass - which looks nicer in my opinion than a glossy brass - which is more common. The square glass front looks great - a change from the traditional oval shaped glass. It is also beveled on the edges. The clock is heavy - weighs 27 pounds on my scale. I did not mount into a stud - but used a special anchor screw which supports about 100 pounds I also screwed two small hooks into the top corners as extra support - just because I was nervous about the weight. I did manage to hang the clock by myself - if you aren't able to hold weight for a few minutes you might want to get help to ensure you can mount it carefully and correctly - once it's up on the wall you probably don't want to take it down for some time :)The chime sounds is quite nice - it is a little loud which is find during the day but at night I turn off the chime manually. You do hear a nice tick-tock sounds from the clock.I find the proportion of the clock dial face to the pendulum a nice feature - the clock face is not too small or too big - it also has a nice creamy/yellowish tint which works well with the wood - again - not the normal coloring like you see on most clock which are white or off white.I was afraid the clock would look too big on my wall but is actually looks great on the wall and I prefer the larger size to a medium sized one.The clock still has a classic traditional look to it but also has it slight contemporary look as well - so it will work with most any furniture style you have in your room.

Best quality purchase I ever made.
Purchase this Howard Miller New Heaven Wall Clock new back in 2000. It keeps perfect time still. I have never had it serviced, but am going to soon because it’s been 19 years old and probably could use a mechanical cleaning. I wind it up every 6 days, and it’s totally perfect on the exact time. This clock is heavy, solid, and classy. The tick tock sound will make you want to go take a nap!
