How big is this tree upon shipping? How tall and what size container?

Very tiny - they ship it loose inside a USPS Flat Rate box. It might be 9 inches total including the height of the pot - The container is a little smaller than the lower half of a solo cup - maybe 1 cup worth of dirt. It is just a little grafted stick, the graft spot from the original tree hasn't healed over yet, no leaves or branches, but with time and care it should probably grow.

will this tree survive in zone 9 planted in full sun ?

Most maples are very hardy up to zone 8 in partial sun. I would not take the risk in zone 9 in full sun. I live on the border of zone 7-8 and full sun is just too much even in my zone.

Are these grafted trees or actual trees? Grafted is not the same as a tree. No where does it state this in the description of the product.

Almost every unusual Japanese maple is grafted. This is because the graft root system will be more robust or vigorous. Nothing to worry about and within a few years the graft won’t be so obvious.
