Solid and inexpensive (but not cheap); Arca Swiss foot
First, I just want to address that this product is intended for the Canon 70-300mm F4-5.6L IS USM, and it fits that lens just fine. Other reviewers complaining about it being too big/small have either a) not fitted it to the right lens, or b) unfortunately received the wrong product. That said, there clearly have been some revisions to this product over time, as the product I received varies a bit from the item depicted (mostly in good ways, and certainly nothing that affects its use/function negatively). To start, the black padding/flocking on the interior of the tripod collar isn't black nor is it soft. Instead, there's a clear, glossy plastic that runs the interior with something slightly squishy underneath (could well be just the adhesive layer holding the glossy plastic ring in place). Wouldn't be my preference, but it serves the purpose just fine and allows the collar to spin when loosened without causing any undue scratching to the lens barrel, and it also holds position nice and firm when clamped down.Second, the actual tripod foot is better than what's depicted in that it actually has the standard Arca Swiss-style grooves cut into the foot itself. This a really nice feature, and I wish all tripod collars/feet had it, as it saves having to add an additional plate for most people. Honestly, they should update the photos, because that alone makes it a worth upgrade to the Canon option (even if it weren't egregiously priced). It even comes with the additional stop screws (and allen key to install) to limit how far the plate slide/travel when partially clamped in a compatible base.Everything else is as you'd expect it. Color match is definitely very close, but not quite perfect; from a distance you'd never notice, but up close (and under the right light) you can tell, but if that sort of thing bothers you, you're probably not considering this third party option. Same goes for the textured finish of the metal - it's close, but not an exact match.Construction is simple cast aluminum and it's very solid. The one place they could improve is the pin at the hinge, as there's some extra wobble/play when opening and closing, but once you've secured it closed around the lens barrel there's no play. Likewise, the knurled thumb screw doesn't have the push-lock safety mechanism like the official Canon collars to keep it from coming off if it's unintentionally loosened - but again, hardly a deal breaker and a very sensible cost-saving measure. And as long as you check that it's tight every so often (though mine's not showing any signs of loosening on its own), it's fine. And that's it. Solid, reasonably well-made, and actually pretty feature rich - especially compared to the Canon option. I'd honestly prefer one of these for my 70-200mm just for the better tripod foot. Just make sure you've got the right foot/collar for your lens and you're golden.

Canon 70-300L Tripod Ring
Great Tripod ring for my 70-300L. Very sturdy and love that it fits with a swiss arca type of tripod. I use the gorilla pod and it works. It was so much cheaper to buy this than the Canon branded one and for the amount of times I will use it, this is worth it and it fits my tripod! Sturdy, straightforward and easy to use!

It does the job!
I was hesitant to purchase a non Canon Collar Mount ring for my 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS. However, after seeing the high price Canon is asking for their Collar Mount Ring, I decided to take my chances and order this item. I have to say, aside from minor things like bad packaging that lacks enough protection, the item arrived safely and it fits fine.It seemed solid enough and definitely capable of handling the lens weight and a full frame Canon Camera. It does the job for less than $25 compared to the Canon version that costs over $150. It seems to have a decent coating on the inside of the ring to prevent scratching the lens barrel. Finally, the color was not a perfect match but was close enough and falls within the acceptable range.I would have given it a 5 Stars rating if the color matched perfectly and the packaging was better. (it came in some kitchen ziplock bag but wrapped with 2 layers of soft material. No bubble wrap or a box of any sort. Overall, I am satisfied with the collar Ring and I would recommend it!

The Real Deal for a Real Price
This tripod mount clamps securely on the Canon EF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6L on the clear space between the distance scale and the focusing ring. With the tripod mount pointed back toward the camera as recommended, the tripod mounting holes provide an excellent balance point for the lens mounted on an EOS 5D Mark II, and thus on all the high-end Canon cameras. With the Rebel series, the lesser weight of the camera should not affect the effectiveness of the tripod mount location; it should still be quite good, although I'll leave the definitive opinion of use with Rebels because I don't have a Rebel on hand to try this. Product link: Tripod Mount Ring C (WII) for Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6LThings that I have observed include:a) The finish of this tripod mount is gray baked-on finish or powder-coating that is an excellent match to the lens color and finish. The three main components of the tripod mount are all machined aluminum, and the thumbscrew used for mounting or rotating the tripod mount is steel.b) There are two tripod mounting holes, one each for standard and large tripod mount screws. The larger one is to the rear, where its position will better balance the heavier professional cameras.c) Because of the excellent IS of the EF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6L, you will rarely need a tripod mount, which is likely the reason that Canon does not include one with the lens. But, if you want to shoot top-notch HDR or other multiple exposures or long exposures, a tripod or at least a good monopod is a must, and the lens tripod mount balances the camera-lens combination with a far stabler and better-balanced grip than the tripod mount on the camera bottom. Without a lens-attached tripod mount that balances the lens-camera assembly, small portable tripods and monopods are of limited use for slow shutter speeds and are almost useless for time exposures.d) This tripod mount has rounded edges and a padded lens contact surface that is visible as the black inside of the mount in the product photo. This mount can be attached and rotated at will and leave absolutely no marks on the lens. I have seen reviews on other lens-attached tripod mounts that don't have the padding or rounding that a reviewer says chipped the finish on their lens. Not so for this tripod mount.e) There is an index line engraved lightly on the top of this tripod mount that is not visible in the photo. You align this with the distance mark on the focus scale to level the camera in the tripod mount for the normal or landscape orientation. If you like to rotate the camera 90 degrees for a portrait orientation, or you use a tripod on a non-level surface, you might want to include a small bubble level in your camera bag and use it to adjust the camera bottom to vertical or horizontal. If you have a quick-release tripod mount with a bubble level, leave it on the camera bottom. There are only two downsides for this product:1) It's not a genuine Canon product, and thus doesn't have the red Canon logo etched on the side.2) It's shipped by postal services from China, which takes a while to get to home delivery in the USA.When you look at these things, they don't seem important because this is clearly a high-quality product that will be of use for as many years as the lens. And, the price reflects the small-business cost as compared to the far, far higher cost of a low-volume high-quality product in the Canon manufacture/storage/shipping supply chain.

Great product that cost far less than the manufacture original
This collar ring fits perfectly on my lens, zero fitment issue. It is a quality built product, color is not 100% the same as the lens, but close enough, I wouldn't even consider this an issue. For the price you pay, you can't find a better bang for your buck. Highly recommend it.
