EMG Geezer Butler Signature P Bass Guitar Pickup Set

I bought this because of the solder-less process and the extra tone and volume pots and the extra jack. I have a Squier Classic Vibe P-bass, and it's a very good bass for the price, but I figured that there must be something missing, and so I was thinking of either the EMG Geezer or the SD 1/4-Pounder, and the solder-less option and extra pots and jack won me over. I don't know how the 1/4-Pounder sounds, but I know that if I got it, I would have to get extra pots to replace the mini pots, wires and jack, where this EMG Geezer pickup came with everything. It sounds excellent... It just got that extra vibe and definition that I didn't hear before over the stock pickup, even if the tone was turned down. The installation was easy, but the only thing was the shafts are solid shaft and slightly bigger, so I had to buy 2 different knobs ... no biggie. The jack is also better than stock. I am just happy happy! Recommended!

First these sound great, the neck P pickups are fat and grumbly, the bridge J pickup is raspy and well rounded. The J pickup is split coil and didn't pickup any hum from nearby electronics. Beware the J pickup didn't quite fit into the Squire body I was using as a donor for this build. It was ever so slightly to long, nothing a few min with the dremmell couldn't solve but you should know that this is a posibility. Also there is no foam pads for putting under the pickups but the packaging works nicely. Install was a breze, included instructions were clear and helpful. About the toan, I had my dad take a crack at it once I was done building this guitar and he couldn't get over how warm and vintage the P pickup sounded. For reference he plays a '72 fender P that he bought new. 10/10 will be buying for future builds.

My trusty old 1978 Precision fretless (modified early in life to a P-J) had some active EMG pick-ups when I bought it 30 years ago, but over time they were getting finicky and I was tired of changing the battery. So I decided to go passive this time and wow am I glad I chose these. I was worried that my soldering skills had gone unused for so long that I’d be struggling to get any new p-ups installed, or I’d have to pay the local repair shop to do it. But these are literally plug and play, they were so easy to install- even with my overly-cautious approach I was able to do the full swap within 30 minutes. Did I mention the sound? These are rock solid, and with tape-wound strings this bass has never sounded better, at least since I bought it. The sound is even across the 4 strings, with plenty of output. The P pickup by itself is deep and has a vintage sound, and the J by itself gives me the Jaco-y fretless pop I need keep things from getting muddy. So far my favorite mix is to dial the P back just a bit, about 55% J and 45% P - still full but with great punchiness. And the pots work flawlessly and quietly. The tone control gets a bit less use but it works great when I want to get thumpy- just roll back the treble and shake the floor. Highly recommended if you’re looking to upgrade your sound, I am loving mine and looking forward to many more years of rocking the house.

I have three sets of geezer butlers in my squire precision bases, they're 100% upgrade from the stock pickups good quality sound good bottom end with a good mid punch the highs are there too but they're nice and warm they're not pinchy, great value for the money,

Easy to install - no wiring knowledge needed thanks to the solderless system. I dropped these into a Squire PJ and needed to slightly shave the bridge pickup slot and change knobs as the new pots are taller and the post is a tad larger. They sound amazing!

these are very good. big sound with clarity and fairly balanced- not too bright, with good mid range content and nice rich lows through the mids. I can see why they are so popular. Jazz bridge pickup is a split coil humbucker, so there's no hum when it's in use. It matches nicely with the P. This PJ set sounds like it was designed as a PJ set, which is not as common as you might expect. I find these to sound great for fingerstyle and pick playing. They're outstanding for music styles and tones from the early days of ebass- motown, old school, rock, country, etc. They are also a great choice for fatty hip hop tones, and non-slap gospel stuff. I wasn't as comfortable with these pickups when playing more nimble music- chords, harmonics, fast/high playing all over the bass in a hurry. Don't get me wrong- they do that just fine, but there are other pickups that feel lighter and more nimble to me as a player. For fat bass playing, it's really hard to beat these pickups, and the only thing that's competitive with these at this price would be the Bill Lawrence Wilde PJ set, IMO, which are also worth checking out.

this things are great and a breeze to install! no soldering kit comes with everything

I put these in a PJ build and I think I spent more time reviewing the diagram and getting all the pieces straight that I would have if I just soldered it. I guess some people don't want to solder, I wish they had an option for a set without the quick connect. But, I can't complain about how they sound. Amazing.
