Exactly what I wanted
update: 3 years later still discovering what a great buy this was! the video display is beautiful--of course Sony! just today was looking to buy one for my son to use out in the field and cannot believe the price increase from when i purchased it 3 years ago! still VERY happy with my purchase but now wish i had bought two :).I read the reviews with some hesitation made the purchase--NO regrets! I only wanted to use for Music; my library & FM (a great feature!)The E374 model: Has excellent battery life (played FM radio hooked up to my Creative speaker for 9 hours and still had bars), does not easily turn on (double protection by using pause then Power Hold), can also be charged using one of our older phone chargers, is lightweight, looks great, easy to use and with a screen big enough to not have to use my glasses, EXCELLENT sound quality and the headphones are really good! a DEAL for the price.Recommend the iGadgitz Black Luxury Soft Napa Leather Case Cover for Sony Walkman: it fits this model perfect!

Good and Bad
It has good and bad aspects.Good: I love how easy it is to scroll thru the songs alphabetically (you can jump thru the letters rather than go thru songs by song). The sound quality is excellent.Bad: I hate that you can't set up playlists on the player. You have to do it on the computer and transfer it onto the player. And it takes about 15 seconds to turn it on. You have to press and hold the option button for then wait for the screen to light up. Then press and hold it again and wait for the song to pop up. Then you can press play. It doesn't sound like long, but it's just annoying when you get in the car and you want to get your music on and get going. It also often stays on in sleep mode when you turn it off. That can use up the battery.

My go-to MP3 player
While I haven't used the video on my Walkman MP3 player yet, I'm happy to say that everything else is great about this MP3 player. The sound is excellent, and if you're looking to get full benefits of the Sony Walkman, use Sony earphones and earbuds to get that full stereo sound. It's not a random plug. I've used my RCA wrap around headphones with my Walkman, and the sound comes out great, but with my Sony headphones, the sound comes in PERFECT. Also, I love the way my Walkman organizes all my songs by artist and genre in alpha-numeric order. Instead of having to scroll down nonstop, I can just use the letter directory to check for the artist by first name (for example, "R" for Ronnie Laws). This is the best stand alone MP3 player I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few. Over the years, I've always gravitated toward Coby MP3 players until the company went out of business. Their MP3 players were decent, but constantly had display problems or couldn't hold a charge. Also, I owned an RCA Lyra MP3 player, which was a great music player, except for a defect that ruined the screen display. Right now, I've owned my Sony Walkman MP3 player for a few months, and the only complaint I've had about it is that once in a blue, it does freeze when it's on hold, but this has only happened three times for me. The reset button is small, but with a pin or a straight paper clip or staple, you can push the reset button to unfreeze it. As I said, this is rare. One other great thing I can say about my Sony Walkman is that the battery life is GREAT. I can get 8 to 10 hours of straight music play without needing to plug in to charge, and I only find myself charging my MP3 player maybe twice a week. That's how strong the battery life is.Overall, if you're looking for an alternative to using your cellphone or an iPod touch to play music on the go, I recommend the Sony Walkman MP3 player. I have an iPod touch, but because I have so many apps, it's not the best place for me to load my music on. With the 8GB on my Walkman, I have more than enough space for my music library on the go, and aside from the rare freezing, I can't complain about it one bit.

New version of an old favorite
I like Walkman's (Walkmen?). I have about 8 because I have a huge audio book library. This is the first one I have bought in a few years, and I am so far very satisfied with its performance and controls. I agree with other reviewers that the red plastic case is pretty cheesy-looking, but if the device proves durable as my old ones, I won't really mind. I usually have it in a clip-on stretch case anyway, so I don't have to look at it. My stretch case is older, and has different control indicators marked on the outside, but once I got used to this Walkman I don't have any trouble finding the controls without taking it out the case. I actually prefer the new location of the volume control. I did not give it five stars because of its unattractive appearance, and because I have not had it long enough to know if it is durable.

QUALITY HAVE A NAME: "SONY"
SOUND: Music sounds clean, clear, and balanced, with a nice presence on the low-end,rich mids, and detailed highs, complemented with a good bass response.Includes a variety of sound-enhancement options, including four presets and two, five-band custom Equalizer,so if the flat setting doesn't do it for you, you should have no problem tweaking the sound to your liking.DESIGN/USE: The walkman is lightweight almost 2 ounces. Has a fairly standard design, which isn't necessarily a bad thing,as it makes the player very straight forward to operate.Below the screen are the main playback controls: a five-way control pad, a back/home button, and an OPTION/PWR/HOLD key that brings up various contextual menus.Getting music and other content(video, photos) onto the player is an easy process it works with a variety of jukeboxes (such as Windows Media Player or !Tunes), or you can use the Sony Content Transfer app, which allows for drag and drop from your hard drive. This walkman have a FM radio too.BATTERY LIFE: Listen MP3 music around 25 hours, but some settings affect battery life: equalizer, brightness, screensaver.OVERALL: A good MP3 player for a reasonable price for: listen music in the house, running or go to the Gym.
