Please Don't Drink the Holy Water!: Homeschool Days, Rosary Nights, and Other Near Occasions of Sin

Hilarious.....and so true!!!!
This was THE BEST gift I could have ever gotten for my Mom for Mother's Day. She is a "graduate" of 21 years of homeschooling us. Even though she had only three girls spread far apart in age, she was practically rolling on the floor in helpless laughter as she saw how well it related to her friends who had much larger families. I sorta "borrowed" it to look at after I realized I let it slip through my fingers to her without getting a chance to read it....and now, with two toddlers and an infant and the prospect of homeschooling them (and undoubtedly some more!) I decided I had to buy this book for me now!!! I am waiting for a sequel!!! Susie Lloyd, you are the greatest!! Keep 'em coming! :-)

Very Funny and Interesting
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick and easy read and kept me laughing and entertained throughout.I'm a Catholic homeschooling mom of 4, so I could relate to pretty much everything Mrs. Lloyd wrote about - but I think any Catholic mom would find this book really amusing even if all the parts didn't directly relate to her own family situation. The author has a great sense of humor and ability to tell a story in a way that is funny. This book is a very entertaining, wholesome read. I highly recommend it.

Not as funny as people have been saying!
This book has been recommended in Catholic circles for some time, so I finally purchased it. I shouldn't have. I was very disappointed. I didn't even crack a smile, until the chapter on trying to pray the rosary with children. That one was hysterical! Still, it is only a few pages out of the book. I think the reason it falls flat is because it is so impersonal. You never feel involved with the family. Most stories are too vague (the children don't even have names) and focus on the setting more than the people. I know there are a lot of glowing reviews here, but you'll probably be happier with another book.

Disappointing.
Usually I love books in this genre - Catholic mothers writing about their experiences, encouraging the rest of us along in our grand vocation as mothers of many children. This one was disappointing, however - it just wasn't written well. The book was a series of vignettes (sort of) of life, and while many of them were funny (she obviously tries to write with lots of humor) none of them held together with any cohesion. There was no overall arch to the book, no story, sometimes it seemed that there was no point. I couldn't ever figure out where she was going with the little bits of humor, and by the time I got to the end I realized that she never went anywhere. For mothers who need real encouragement in their vocation, I'd recommend Holly Pierlot or Danielle Bean instead.

Catholic Homeschooling Humor
This book is a lot of fun to read for the Catholic homeschooling mom trying her best. She candidly shares coping with criticism from the "real world" to being tired to frumpiness. She makes a good literary companion for the Catholic mom facing imperfection and feeling alone.
