Great for non-psychiatric physician
This text consolidates literature into digestible and organized content well referenced for expanded reading in depth when the interest strikes. While I'm sure this may be heavy on review for practicing psych clinicians, as a nonpsych doc, this was very helpful. I read this 12 years from med school graduation when my child's behavior suggested the diagnosis, and it was wonderfully helpful. Prior to reading this, I spent too much time reading popular media content which did not site evidence and, in retrospect, was a waste of time. I would never utilize popular media in my clinical practice, and yet, somehow, when it came to my own family, I ended up reading media articles first. If you're a physician, bite the bullet and read an evidence based text!Beware: it's still a textbook and block off a significant amount of time if you want to read cover to cover.

THE authoritative book on ADHD
This book is so comprehensive and excellent. Thank you, Dr. Barkley, for compiling this indispensable handbook for working with adhd.

The Bible
A must have for any clinician who treats ADHD. The DSM doesn’t cover so many facets of ADHD and this is nearly comprehensive.

Mixed feelings.
This book is a difficult read. The good: seems to cover each topic in extensive detail; uses extensive references and often talks in depth about the references and studies; each chapter ends with a summary of key ideas and another list of references. The bad: while references are good (APA style), he often has several for each thought/paragraph. This makes reading difficult since I just want to know the point he is trying to make. I'll look up the references later if I question a statement or have more specific interest. I think numbers as a reference mark would have been better; He seems to take hold of the idea of "why say it in 5 or 10 words when you can say it in 30 or 40" - very wordy and takes a long time to get to the point; Way too many acronyms. It's hard to tell which ones will be important until you are several pages along and he has used it over and over - then I have to go back and find the first reference to see what it stands for. Each section should use the full words or have a page (somewhere in the book) that list acronyms and what they mean. I finally started a list to keep track.; he often says, "as we will see in chapter _" or "as we will discuss in detail in chapter _". I suppose this would be helpful in knowing the topic will be explained in detail, but given how wordy the book is, it tends to fill me with dread instead of something to look forward to. I am a special education teacher with a master's degree and 27 years of experience. I am reading this book because I want to know more about ADHD and how to help students (not required reading).

This is an awesome book, which I consider the Bible of the understanding of Attendtion Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I watched some of Dr. Russell A. Barkley's conferences on U-Tube and that is how I found out about this book. I believe it explains everything you need to know about Attendtion Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I expecially like how it includes the history, assessment and treatment of children and adults with ADHD. This is a must have book.

Just released in Fall 2014 with the latest research, and well as a thorough history of ADHD diagnosis and treatment. Great in combination with the free video lectures that Dr. Barkley has posted online.

it does have a lot of useful information, good advise and fantastic recommendations to consider
This book is written for clinicians/therapists. There's a lot of jargon and references to concepts that not everyone would understand or relate to. With that said though, it does have a lot of useful information, good advise and fantastic recommendations to consider.

buon manuale

comprehensive dense textbook
this is a detailed and comprehensive text book- it was up to date at the time of publication, but this is fast developing field. if you have ADHD you may 'zone out' easily because of the level of detail: similarly more colour, boxes, diagrams, subheadings etc would have been nice- the average doctor may be happy with the layout but if you struggle to maintain focus you might have anted more signposting/structure etc.
