The Gentle Weapon: Prayers for Everyday and Not-so-Everyday Moments: Timeless Wisdom from Rebbe Nachman of Breslov This is a great gift for anyone of any faith who is going through a hard time. I keep buying this either as a gift, or I have given away my own copy over and over again, so I need to replace it. Nachman Breslev lived and taught over 200 years ago, yet his writing resonates with people today.The only thing I would change is the cover illustration which I find less than compelling and a little off-putting. If you can get past that, you will find comfort and wisdom inside. No prayer or meditation is longer than a few lines on one page. No matter where I open it, it as iff it was written just for me.

A well-written book of prayers, especially one meant to be carried on one's person, is worth its weight in gold. Unfortunately, all too many of them are about as inspirational as a dime store greeting card. Either that or they're so sectarian as to be of limited use generally.It was with some lack of expectation, therefore, that I purchased a copy of THE GENTLE WEAPON. Much to my surprise it was the one book of prayers that succeeded at being intelligent, inspiring, and -- while unabashedly theistic -- theologically sophisticated.I found only one prayer to be questionable: "...everything that happens to me... is an expression of Your everlasting love, and Your concern for my ultimate good." I prefer Reb Noson's prayer: "You send hidden messages to each person, in every situation, to bring him or her closer to Your service, in accordance with the place, the time, and the individual." So when I read "an expression of" I substitute: "embraced by."I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for meaningful and compelling language for personal prayer.

Beautiful. It has become like my new psalms. I just love it. Deffintely recommended!!! I bought 3 in total, as gifts for members of my family. A must buy!Side note, I love the size because it fits into my purse.

Beautifully written

I love this little book. I'm reading it through for about the third time now. The first time I just devoured it. The second time a bit slower, now I'm trying to just read a few, maybe 2 or 3 pages a day and really think and meditate on them. I gave several copies as gifts and everyone that got one has appreciated it and really found it helpful.

Love this book and often give copies as graduation gifts or to friends and acquaintances going through a hard time. Simple and heartfelt prayers that help you understand you are not (and have never been) alone inbfeeling the way you do- whatever emotion on the spectrum you are feeling, from joy to grief.

I read this book every day. It has helped me through some of the darkest days of my life. I am amazed at how many of these prayers fit my situation. If you are looking for hope, inspiration, solace...whatever, buy this book. I'm glad I did.

An absolutely marvelous compilation of reflections. Only dissapointment: the latest edition is printed in one color: type is red, which I'm sure is a publishing economy. It detracts from the appearance and readability of an other wise extraordinary book.

This lovely book is a compilation of short prayers (in English) ideal for asking for assistance with various issues and giving thanks to G-d. The prayers are simple yet powerful, I turn to this little book whenever I feel the need for help in wording my prayers and also for comfort. Highly recommended.

This little book is just brilliant. Rebbe Nachman of of Breslov in his day (and continues to) influenced a lot of people. He was also the great grandson of the Ba’al Shem Tov.His short prayers in this book really speak to the heart. When you’re lost for words because of your circumstances this little book will help. It is said in the Talmud: “words from the heart penetrate the heart” - and this is exactly what this book does.The Rebbe Nachman of Breslov’a teachings from the 18th century are just as relevant today as they were then.The book contains prayers during times of confusion, crying out to G-d, passing good character traits onto children, times of distress, thanks, healing, learning to be a giver and so much more.I highly recommend this book. I am a Noahide (I follow Jewish Law as it pertains to gentiles) but I also think this book would be suitable for people of all faiths. I’ve now bought two more copies - one for a friend in hard times and another for my mum.

Whatever your religion, this book is an indispensable resource for deep personal prayer on almost any theme. They are a great inspiration for developing an ongoing prayerful dialogue with God, and many of them are short enough to use for a meditative prayer practice through repetition. The teaching of Rabbi Nachman expressed in this book is to develop a direct no-nonsense intimacy when speaking with God. Highly recommended.
