Japonisme The Art Of Finding Contentment

Disappointing, bland with nice photos.
Written by a westerner who may have some Japanese DNA, but that’s as far as it goes and you can get most of this information by watching a few documentaries on YouTube. The author throws around a few commonly known Japanese words and write a few paragraphs on each one from the Western perspective – which is what she is, and western. This book could’ve been so much better and has no substance. No real heart. If feels like someone who is only trying to market her having part Japanese ancestry yet not Japanese, but we’ll toss out some western pop culture words, write a few paragraphs on it from a wiki, but not from personal experience for white people who know nothing about Japanese culture. Disappointing. Picture my Japanese friends & family frowning. I gave an extra star for the photographs and cover art which are much better than the book.

A delightful overview of Japanese culture.
I did not read this book. It was a gift to a friend who requested it. I did read the first book in this series and loved the picture it presented of Japanese culture.

Not for me
A picture of this book came up on my roku screensaver. Not sure if the book is for me. Or the screensaver. I need to reevaluate my life choices. 3 stars without buying it because im sure you worked hard.

I enjoyed it
Really nice little book, from simple but pretty and tactile hard cover to the insightful content. Get your cocco and snuggle down in a comfy chair for a quiet reflecting "me time" during these long dark evenings. The author is actually half Japanese which helps to make this book one of a kind. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Good content let down by terrible writing
This book covers a lot of material, and it’s well illustrated, but I ended up finishing it in spite of the author’s best efforts. There are pages of the book where the writing feels like speaking to an elderly relative — which is nice in its way — but the majority of them feel more like someone who won’t stop talking about themself. I have never disliked an author’s style more than in this book. There will be those who disagree, and that’s fine, but I personally would have preferred literally any other book.

Nice art - annoying author
Beautiful art. Nice words. I find the author spends a little too long telling the reader about her privileged life which grates on you at times
