Clearing, Settlement and Custody 2nd Edition

Good for investment professionals who have no experience in the back office, such as FoF analysts. Also good for ODD professionals.

If you want a book to help you understand the clearing and settlement process then look somewhere. No real process understanding here. Very few detailed work flows or process maps etc. Mostly detailed explanation that attempts to justify how complex the processes are for various products on various markets. No one doubts that it is complex, the value from a book like this would be from proving insight, simplify, clarify, compare and contrast. There is no attempt at this. A simple explanation of what the current state is - a mess.

Very informative and updated. It does not surprise me to read that people found it useful for changing jobs. Unfortunately, the book hardly provides any numerical example, so the knowledge one can take out of it is merely good for an initial job interview or some coffee-corner chat.I wish the author would provide ten complete numerical examples for each chapter: this could be done in a companion website and would make this book a very useful reference for IT professionals operating in the after-trade field, which is so interesting, fast-moving and challenging.

Updated from the previous edition the new edition is a good start although it has dated within the two years due to the ongoing regulatory changes. Host concepts are covered but the images of the kindle version are not very clear in that it is difficult to read the words.

It’s a very basic introduction....you can get most of these off the internet. Definitely not worth buying. I think the title needs to say introduction.

Gut zu lesendes Buch, welches die Themen Settlement und Clearing von Anleihen, Aktien und Derivaten beschreibt, sowie auch auf Custody Services, Securities Lending und Settlement of Portfolio Transactions eingeht. Im letzten Kapitel werden die Risiken und die regulatorischen Anforderungen betrachtet.Innerhalb der Kapitel würde ich mir eine offensichtlichere Struktur wünschen.

Being new to Custody, this book was perfect. It covers Fund Administration in detail, the chapter on Derivatives instruments was awesome. I recommend this book to all who want to understand the world of Fund Operations/ Custody and have little background in it. I also recommend the book to veterans of the industry to fine-tune their understanding of concepts.
