Railway Paintings
An excellent book portraying some of Barry Freemans railway paintings.Definitely up there with the likes of Malcolm Root, Philip Hawkins etc.

Every picture is a real gem.
A beautifully illustrated book, with the locomotives looking as would we would have liked to have seen them when they were actually running. And I know that in real life they seldom did look pristine as I was a fireman, one the main reason was there was nobody to clean them in the latter days of steam, as soon as I started on the railway I was sent of to trained as a passed cleaner which meant I was able to fire locomotives, they were so short of firemen that I never got to clean any locomotives I was always firing.

Very Good, but one reservation.
I agree with the previous reviewers about the quality of this book, in that it is full of interest and excellent artwork. Barry Freeman is one of the very best of railway artists and his paintings are a joy. My one reservation is the size of the book, being only 11" by 8.5". This does not really do justice to the paintings, but unfortunately it does seem to be the modern trend. The days of the coffee-table sized books of the David and Charles type publications seem to be a thing of the past.Having said that, it is still a great book to have and at the Amazon price it is good value.

Excellent volume
An excellent publication of some wonderful subject matter and locations. This book is a good reminder of how things used to be and for the collector and budding artist alike, extremely difficult to put down. It has many fine colour plates to mull over and with the artist explaining each picture as he saw it and with some good pointers if you fancy having a go. Highly recommended reading and studying, regardless of your point of view.

Paintings usually very good or excellent
Paintings usually very good or excellent, but the artist has a clinical approach which will not please everyone, reminiscent of new outfits in costume drama; on the other hand, the consistency is commendable.

Wonderful steam scenes
A glorious booh showing 40 of Barry Freeman's paintings. The detail is superb but, as with all nostalgia, the sun always seems to shine!!A great coffee table book for those who wish to recall the era of when one could see how trains actually worked.
