CoralifeAqualight Mini Aquarium LED Light Fixture 18 IN

Don't be fooled by the name, this light won't work well for coral. It's ok for the price. Honestly, its got a great little timer system sith sunrise and sunset and that's the best part about this light. Otherwise, it's pretty comparable to other knock-off LED lights for freshwater tanks.It is very well built, I like it. It's just not for a reef tank. You need lights with much more Blue types of LED's and Ultraviolet for your corals to thrive.

It may seem like coral and life in the product name is geared to as such. You would be wrong, however. Coralifes LED 18" mini is suitable for saltwater FOWLR. It is also works great for a fish only tropical aquarium. As such, this LED requires (must have) glass between the fixtures and water. You should know this in advance. They are sealed and water resistant, but definitely NOT waterproof! Many LED's are in fact water sealed and meet these guidelines such as, Fluval IP68 enclosures provide maximum protection against moisture, even when completely submerged. That out of the way, how do they in your particular situation? Very subjective answer sais no to planted tank. Sure the LED's are quality chipment. The fade and the RF remote control round out the package. Now this type of LED from Coralife is nothing new. In fact, it's technology leans heavily on a mix of saltwater and fresh. It does not seem to be geared towards the planted tank, only that it is capable. This LED Fixture with remote is "pretty" and again very well made (thank uou Central Garden and Pet). My suggestion, even with the capability of setting timers, would be to look for an LED that is focused on , well, plants. It's not too difficult today! That sums up the bottom half of this review. I like it, for a fish only tank. Throw some silk artificial ones and your set! Or, buy that better, freshwater planted aquarium design and really light things up. The customization ends here. It has oh so nice appearances only. Probably not suggested for "the planted tank," but really instead as its great for beginners and kids so they can "learn" what to use and how.

Excellent light for 5 gallon tanks! Bought this for a Betta tank... Easy to use and kids like being able to change colors with the remote.

Since I installed this light, there has been a lot of algae in my fish tank. I was wonder if someone else has the same issue. Was wondering if I replace the same product, will the same problem arise.
