Dallas - Season 7 [DVD] [2007]

Enjoyable TV series. JR is up to no good as usual! Great stuff. Good storylines and acting. Old fashioned in some ways but stories are top knotch.

This season is Dallas at its glitzy best. The sets get better, the lighting turns up a notch and the action moves to more upmarket joints, like the Oil Barons Club. J.R. is at his dastardly best, Swellin makes eyes at gorgeous young student Peter, and poor old Lucy is unlucky in love yet again. Pam and Bobby are still apart, and this series see the return of Jenna Wade, played by the gorgeous Priscilla Presley. John Ross Junior steals every scene he is in, due to his great acting, as does baby Christopher, but only because he never stops crying. The fashions are a delight as is the hair : the shoulder pads and backcombing get wider as the series progresses. Cliff is in the money for once but fool that he is, it's not long until he's back to making useless deals. And lovely Miss Ellie finds romance with Clayton Farlow. The dilemmmas are still there: how much food do these people eat and never put on weight? Why do they drink bourbon all day and then drive home? And why do so many rich people all have to share a house? A classic Dallas series: watch out for Katherine Wentworth, too. Pure soap villainy at its best.

It is true that after Jim Davis died Dallas got more & more over the top and downright implausible . It was good that Howard Keel turned up as Clayton Farlow and met Miss Ellie . JR needed to be kept in check as letting him run wild is not an enchanting prospect . The Mark Graison storyline is played out in a touching & sensitive manner while in the true Dallas tradition all the little sub-plots bubble a way nicely so that as with Season Three things build up a nice cresecendo and of course a cliff hanger to be resolved when season 8 comes out on DVD . Dallas proves that money does not buy happiness as the Ewings for all their money are not a happy crowd . Dallas captures the 1980's - both the greed and the opptimism alike . Larry Hagman did a great job as JR . But as it went on Dallas got dafter and season 7 starts the process of it sliding into comic self parody rather than being a seris drama . There was no need for Carry On Dallas to be filmed in Pinewood studios in 1987 as the actual programme to be spoofed was a comic parody already . The plot lines around JR , Sue Ellen , Miss Ellie and Bobby were daft enough by the mid 1980's without Kenneth Williams , Suzanne Dannielle , Joan Sims or Jim Dale doing an unecessary comic version in Carry On Dallas . Dallas Season Seven is to be watched I think as a tongue in cheek view of the 1980's - not as a serious piece of drama . A good way to relax as it is easy and at times funny to watch . Hence the view that JR is the one we love to hate !

Had to have this to with my collection

It is the second time I bought this Dallas season (7th) and both have the same problem. Disc 4, episodes 20 and 21 have a problem. While we are watching episode 20 it starts stopping until it completely freezes and no matter what you do to move forward it ends up jumping to the end of the disc and it is impossible to finish episode 20 and not possible at all to watch episode 21. I even bought 2 new DVD player to ensure that I did not have a problem with mine. I also asked friends to see if they could watch the episodes on their DVD player but same problem happened. I bought the first 7th season and the second 7th season months apart but the problem was the same. I did not return any of the items because a friend ended up by downloading the episodes from the net in order for me to be able to proceed watching but it was very disappointing not to be able to have them properly recorded in my collection when I do my best to buy the real stuff (original and certified releases) and not use any other ways that might not be legal to get them, very disappointing indeed!

Love watching again

They dont make them like Dallas anymore! A reminder of being a young child in the 80's and how brill telly use to be!Dallas is one to watch, rewind the years and remember how you use to dream of becoming as rich as the Ewings!!!

I love Dallas but a couple of CDs I'm this series didn't work very well

Über die Mutter aller Soaps ist bereits alles geschrieben worden - den positiven Rezensionen zur Serie im Allgemeinen und den kritischen Rezensionen zur Umsetzung auf DVD im Speziellen kann ich mich immer nur wieder anschliessen.Dass nun bei der letzten Staffel wieder zurückgefunden wurde zur wesentlich handlicheren "ein-Seiten-DVD" ist einerseits verwunderlich, andererseits aber auch erklärlich: hätte man die paar letzten Folgen auf "zwei-Seiten-DVDs" gequetscht, würde man Staffel 14 im Regal gleich gar nicht mehr finden (so schmal wäre der Schuber wohl ausgefallen).Also alles gut gemacht ?Nein !!!Denn obwohl es die letzte Staffel ist, endet auch sie mit einem cliffhanger, welcher nach Fortsetzung schreit.Und tatsächlich tauchen J.R. und Co. ein paar Jahre später ja wieder auf mit Filmen wie "J.R. kehrt zurück" und "Kampf bis auf's Messer".Nun fragt sich der gebeutelte Konsument natürlich, warum diese Filme nicht bereits mit / als DVDs der letzten Staffel erschienen sind (zzgl. möglicherweise des Films "Wie alles begann"). Platz genug für zwei oder drei weitere DVDs wäre im Pappschuber sicher gewesen, man hätte dann möglicherweise sogar wieder "zwei-Seiten-DVDs" akzeptiert.Aber nein, man kennt das ja schon von anderen Serien (Prison Break, Twin Peaks, ......) - da lassen sich die Verleger nicht die Butter vom Brot nehmen.Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass auch bei Dallas die Gier und Gewinnsucht der Medienanstalten überwiegt und diese Filme - natürlich minimalistisch ohne Zusatzmaterial und ohne digitale Aufbereitung - für beispielsweise nochmals jeweils 20,00 EUR / Stück alsbald nachgeliefert werden.Zwar habe ich alle drei Filme noch als original VHS-Medium mit deutschem Ton im Regal stehen, doch es wäre wirklich wünschenswert, meinen VHS-Player endlich in Rente schicken zu dürfen !Gespannt darf man auch sein, ob tatsächlich "Dallas-the next generaion" auf Silberscheiben gepresst und dann auch noch - gnädig - den Weg nach Deutschland finden wird.Wie auch immer: Dallas war, ist und bleibt die beste Serie mit dem wahrscheinlich genialsten und längsten "roten Faden", die jemals produziert wurde.

Was soll man hier schon schreiben?

Ich habe alle Staffeln gekauft, und mit der 14. und letzten möchte ich nun eine positve Bewertung abgeben. Die Serie selbst ist natürlich Geschmacksache, aber die Bild-und Tonqualität ist gut und die Beschreibungen ausführlich. Manche DVDs sind nicht bedruckt und man kann auch die Rückseite verwenden. Aber sie sind alle in Ordnung.Alles in allem empfehlenswert, für Liebhaber gerade jetzt, wo im TV die neuen Staffeln zu sehen sind mit noch einigen Originalschauspielern von damals. "J.R." war auch im Alter und trotz Krankheit unschlagbar, sein Tod ein großer Verlust.Umso schöner, ihn und auch alle anderen in den alten Staffeln in jugendlicher Frische zu sehen. Ich werde wohl immer wieder mal reinschauen.

Hier sind die DVD Scheiben wieder im Stiel der Staffel 1-8. Leider ist die Menüausstattung ohne Folgentitel geblieben wie sie bei Staffeln 9-13 sind.Sonst gut gelungen, nichts zu bemängeln .Außer daß Extras und Specials gerade zum Abschluss der Serie fehlen.Ansonsten geht es hoch her: J.R. geht es an den Kragen und wird von Ex Geliebte zur Strecke gebracht.
