Megalife: The Autobiography of Nick Menza

Fantastic and well worth a read to find out about this extremely interesting individual
I didn't know much about Nick Menza before this but always appreciated Megadeth.Nick had a very unique and humorous view of life and his accomplishments are incredible on some of their best albums - especially Rust in Peace. After reading this I wish he was still here today. I felt like I got to know him a little bit.Quite a bit of information on Megadeth regarding how they operated and especially touring experiences. However it's also sometimes disgusting to see how Mustaine treated Nick unfortunately. Dave caused him enormous amounts of pain by firing him unceremoniously while he was recovering from an operation. Thereafter he continued to create problems for Nick ongoing, as you can read about in this book. This is well worth a read, entertaining and a nice farewell to a great character who should've been with us longer.

Fans of Megadeth’s RIP lineup will enjoy Nick’s numerous anecdotes and perspective
I was hesitant to read Nick’s book, in spite of its being a last testament of sorts to fans, because it felt like cashing in on his past with Megadeth, what with the title and all. Little did I know, upon actually reading the book, that I would come to love the reason for the title, which I won’t spoil for you.About 30%-45% of it involves interactions with Dave Mustaine, who comes across as a Jekyll and Hyde character, more of a Hyde in fact. It might be helpful to read Mustaine’s 2010 memoir for balance. The book captures much of Nick’s personality as we had previously glimpsed in the ‘Evolver’ documentary, interviews, YouTube clips, and of course his music. His manuscript, written over a span of years, appears to have been largely unchanged, and the rawness of his accounts to me makes up for the lack of editing.Loved everything he and his contributors had to say, although as a non-drummer I could have skipped the paragraphs describing the technical specifications of his recommended gear.

Not well-organized, but great book
I read this book right after reading Mustaine's autobiography. Nick's book is more like, back and forth, here and there, he just wrote what, where and when he wanted to. But you can understand what he wanted to tell, really like, having a long, realistic conversation with him. It's real fun to read, too. It's just like Nick's personality. However it doesn't actually have much megadeth stuff, so some can find this book not so interesting. Worth reading, though.

Great Read
I love how people say he shouldn’t use Mega this or that as a title, or he’s cashing in on the fact he was in the band. Everybody who’s ever been in a band in the past or currently does this. It’s a good book for people who want his view of how that period of the band went down.

Not realy much to tell
I am a huge Nick Menza fan. unfortunately his life was cut short when he suffered a heart attack on stage.I am glad that at least there is this bio but can't say it is very in depth. it is strictly basic. Still worth a read if you are a fan.

Good read in about a talented guy
A really good read. Different the way the stories jumped around, but didn't phase me. The part about pissing off Dave mustaine with having plectrums to throw out instead of drumsticks is great. I was lucky enough to meet Nick in 94 and I have one of his drummers picks. Fantastic guy sadly not with us any longer. If you like music autobiographies, you will like this

Insightful Book
Not many books written by big metal drummers, But Buck's book gives you an insight in the world of professional drumming and an even more truthful insight in the workings of one of the world's biggest metal bands. Great read a true megalife. R.I.P Nick Menza

Completed after his death
Still worth reading, though. I was surprised to learn how many guitarists had auditioned for Megadeth before the Rust in Peace album. Not only that, but Dave Jerden was initially involved as that album's engineer until Dave Mustaine thought that there were too many Daves in the studio.

A Mega read.
Great being able to read Nick’s version of life in Megadeth, especially the botched reunion. Good to know he’d moved on and was enjoying playing with Chris Poland before his tragic death. Shame it wasn’t proof read correctly, there’s a fair few mistakes. RIP Nick.
