A tragic tale of woe and deprivation.
Well, I liked the rod, bless it’s heart. I suck at fly fishing, so I adopted the principle of “if you’re going to suck at something, do it simply and gracefully”. Tenkara is the way to go for simplicity. Much to my horror I discovered that I could cast about as far with my Tenkara as i can with a standard fly rod. The line was crappy so I bought some better line (cheap) and line discs instead of of the line keeper that comes with rod.It was the best Tenkara I’ve had to date. One of the telescoping segments jammed so I had to disassemble the rod and unjam it with a rubber mallet. One should also buy a good landing net, otherwise you will be thrashing around when you try to land a fish.Yesterday I drove down to Otter creek in the 35 degree weather. I caught a decent trout and brought it into my net. It was cool. The trout had swallowed my wooly bugger, so I was trying to humanely extricate the lure when the fish flipped out of the net. I had only a loose grip on the rod, so the fish pulled the rod out of my hand and into the current. These rods are quite light and they float well, so both rod and fish sped down the river as I looked on with mute terror. I took out after the ensemble, slipped in the water, filled up my waders with frozen water, and contemplated my demise for several moments. I won’t bore you with the details other than I lived to tell this tale as a caution to others. So I recommend this rod, although I’m going to spend a few more dollars and get a Dragontail next time.

Lots of fun!
I wanted a light fishing system for backpacking. This is a great system for those small brooks. I recently used it on the Owens River tributaries near Bishop California and was very happy with the setup and ease of use. Many other fly fishermen were along the banks as well struggling with casting on this small stream (in the wind) but I was putting the fly where I wanted very easily. I would suggest watching videos on how to set this up the first time and be very careful with the tip of the rod. This set comes with everything to get you fishing in minutes. I am very happy with this purchase.

The Rod Looks Great, but the flies are Lousy
I haven't had a chance to use the tenkara rod yet, but its setup was very easy and looks great. The weakest part of the kit are the flies. One fly unraveled on inspection. All the others appeared poorly made and not useful for trout.

Great intro to Tenkara and fly fishing! See the fish, catch the fish!
Great intro rod to Tenkara. I'm hooked! Broke one of the larger sections when trying to set a hook. Contacted seller for replacement section options. Also great intro to fly fishing. Watching a fish take your fly and setting the hook is amazing.
