A Simple Favor

Lot better than expected
I wasn't initially going to see this. I'd been let down by similar neonoir mystery dramas before. (Felt Gone Girl was just okay and Girl on a Train was disappointing.) Then I heard the positive reviews and changed my mind. I'm glad I did.Director Paul Feig took the story from what appears to be a more serious book with very mixed reviews on Amazon and added humor and a bit of fun to the proceedings. The dark parts are appropriately lurid, but this isn't a dire slog. Witty dialogue and a game cast alleviate the proceedings.Although Blake Lively does a great job as the mysterious woman who goes missing (and hats off to whoever designed her clothes, they are fantastic), this is Anna Kendricks' film. As the slightly oddball, mommy vlogger Stephanie Smothers, Kendricks has the part nailed down a both physically and verbally as she quirkily deals with people. There are a couple flaws. The switch between drama and humor is a little jarring a in a few spots. The second act drags a little, and a few character decisions in the third act were rushed a bit.Overall, I'd recommend this.

Not Worth the Money
The trailer in the hinted at a unique plot twist. There is a twist, but the entire story line lacks credibility in the realm of human behavior. Characters are unbelievably extreme, one being super-sweet and the other the devil in flesh form. A lot of bad language and behavior. Sorry I made the purchase.

Boring book. Marvelous movie.
When I first found out that this film was being made, I was quick to read the book in anticipation. Usually I like to watch the movie first, in a ‘best for last’ sense (since books tend to be better than the movies), but I was too interested to wait for the movie’s release. Fortunately (or unfortunately?), I found the movie to be substantially better than the book, which was rather stale. Paul Feig, Anna Kendrick, and Blake Lively managed to turn a very cliché story with mediocre characters into something fresh, exciting, and even endearing. I was initially surprised as I didn’t think the book had much movie-potential. The performances by Kendrick and Lively will have you falling in love with the plot despite its few cliché moments, making it a great movie to watch with friends for a good time, or even just by yourself. I recommend watching A Simple Favor if you enjoy fun, and somehow simultaneously serious, comedic-mysteries. It really will make you notice and appreciate the talent these stars have.

Gorgeous leading male
The main character’s husband is gorgeous, you can never take your eyes off of him. There is a lot of dark humor in this movie which is fine but after the first half, this movie rapidly descends into an irreverant batting away at sexual problems and death. The dark humor becomes less and less funny. Is watching a woman get hit by a car funny in any way? Really? Also, as long as this movie is -why the unbelievably rapid progress of relationships? There is no use of time to develop a character or relationship. The second half just kind of crumples in on itself like a deflated balloon, not pretty to watch. Too many twists and turns to the plot without any logic or depth. Did someone write this mess in one sitting? Cause it sure feels that way. If I ever watch this again, it will only be for the gorgeous guy.

Good til the end which is weird and silly
I liked it. Sort of. It certainly draws you in and is creative and twisty then at the end it suddenly goes all high school on ya. Like some cruel bait n switch and I was going wait... did that just happen? The ending was far fetched, rediculous, and I expected Will Ferrel to jump out of the sofa. It's 3/4 of a decent movie followed by 1/4 of total bafoonery.

Great Cast, Awful Adaptation of the Book
READ THE BOOK INSTEAD! Okay, I don't want to sound like one of those people that are upset at movies for not being exactly what they pictured of the book, however, the plot lines are completely altered. Let me explain, I read the novel so quickly, in one sitting actually, it was extremely captivating and each character was so well developed. The story arch was new and original in the book. Unfortunately, everything was changed in the film. The ending specifically. I won't go into detail but the book's ending left a whole world of intrigue where, in contrast, the movie was more on par with The Spy I Used to Date (not a horrible film but definitely more comical and cliche than the suspense and mystery). It was funnier than the book, no doubt appealing to a larger audience, but it was mostly disappointing. Each character was flawed in the book, they had complex stories and emotions, too bad the movie was an awful spark notes summary of their stories. The actors were great, which is why I am so particularly upset by the bad script. This book had the potential for being such an incredible mind-blowing film. I wouldn't recommend, the characters are flat (at no fault of the acting), the plot is basic, and it just doesn't have the same feel as the book. I would really commend Blake Lively I thought she played this character fantastically if only she was given a chance to be a more complex human instead of a simple villain. Emotions were barely considered in the film, you really see all you need to see in the trailer. READ THE BOOK use the movie to simply imagine who the cast of characters and nothing else. The costumes were very good as well but they couldn't save this surface-skimming version of the book either.

Awful, lousy acting!
The movie is uninteresting and slow, the girl from Up in the Air acting is exactly the same as in previous performances. Not a very interesting story and the length of the movie adds to the boredom.

Skip the movie, read the book
If you've read the book, its painful watching the movie.

A simple bloody good film.
is a 2018 American black comedy thriller film directed by Paul Feig from a screenplay by Jessica Sharzer, based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Darcey Bell. The film stars Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Linda Cardellini, Rupert Friend, and Jean Smart and follows a small-town blogger who tries to solve the disappearance of her mysterious and rich friend.A Simple Favor was released in the United States on September 14, 2018, by Lionsgate. Critics praised the plot twists and the performances of Kendrick and Lively. The film grossed $97 million worldwide on a $20 million budget.I missed this at the cinema and with a recommendation from Mr Kermode and a big fan of films with a twist I was intrigued by it and my first view came through an online streaming service one Sunday afternoon, being a fan of Anna Kendrick, I could not resist. I was not let down by a well-worked twist from the Hitchcock school of twists and this was soon added to my DVD collection.

Begins well...
Many twists and turns. Started off well but as time went on it seemed to flip between dark twisty thriller, comedy and romance. It became less intense, less scary and predictable. Unfunny humour, especially towards the end and not intense enough. Blake Lively was excellent as the disturbed Emily and was mesmerising to watch. Anna Kendrick seems to play the same naïve kind of character who develops into someone smart and knowledgeable. Trying to be in the same league as “Gone Girl” but not succeeding.

A Simple Favour Ultra HD 4K HDR Disc and 1080p Disc
A very good film, and Anna Kendrick, adorable, with her happy approach towards presenting her online home made cooking show in the movie. And she wants to be nice to everyone, and ends up delving into a mystery. That's all I'm going to to say. You're going to have to buy it to find out the outcome of the mystery. Great picture quality in Ultra HD HDR. Ultra HD HDR equipment needed for the 4K Disc as In, TV/Ultra HD player / Xbox One S or latest model.

A Simply Wonderful Film!
After seeing this three times at the cinema I had to get a copy of this film. Paul Feig manages to create a wonderful mystery caper that is full of humor, twist and turns along the way.
