My other Elite series gauges work fine (EGT, trans temp, boost), but this fuel pressure gauge has been an absolute nightmare for the last 4 months. First, the backlight kept on flashing. These are designed to flash the backlighting when signal is lost. I replaced the banjo bolt, snubber valve, sensor, wiring harness, and the gauge, all to no avail. Finally in despiration, I took off a perfectly good stock lift pump (tested with a mechanical gauge) and replaced it with a high volume low pressure version, which delivers 15-18 PSI vs the stock 3-7 PSI, and that finally solved the problem. $300 wasted, because the truck doesn't need that much fuel volume, and the extra pressure is likely to stress my 30 year old injection pump seals, which will cause big problems (fuel pumped into the crank case). Less than a week after this, the backlighting is now dimmer than the other gauges. Replaced the gauge again, and now it seems to be OK... for now. If you have a first generation Cummins Ram, and you have backlight flashing issues, just go straight to upgrading your lift pump. Cummins sells a high volume low pressure lift pump for these trucks that fits after you cut out a little of the sound deadening insulation on the side of the block. You can find them on various cummins ram performance part web sites. Also, fuel pressure fluctuation is normal on these trucks, as it's a piston lift pump. Mine flutters around between 15 and 17 PSI at idle. It was 4-4.5 at idle with the stock lift pump.

Installed where my cigarette lighter was to monitor the pressure of fuel available to my high pressure pumpon Cummins diesel 2001 Dodge Ram Senor is installed after the fuel filter
