This awl is great. Everyone needs to have several in their shop.

This is a well built sturdy and functional scratch awl. It is the lowest priced awl tool designed for wood typical of the needs for a carpenter. Lesser priced awls will be thinner metal intended more for crafts , sewing etc. This is the real Mc Coy and a great value so 5 stars.

The one they shipped may be a little smaller handle than the picture, but it may be the same size. It's OK. I wanted a clear / red one like the picture - disappointed!

This awl is an excellent tool. Always comes in handy.

Fine for the price. It's a scratch awl. It scratches. It makes guide holes to start screws and drills. It looks like a cheap screwdriver, but it is a cheap scratch awl. Classy ones can cost $20 and they scratch and punch too. It works. I'd buy it again if I ever wear it out.

I like to use and keep these in my tool set and believe in paying for them. I appreciate being able to get as accurate information about them before my purchase unlike whoever just like to take out of other peoples tool bags. I think allowing people to simply unload scratch awls from you tool bags has little to do with getting paid and were I asked to give a paying customer an inexpensive tool I may or may not. This tool is absolutely as effective with a different color handle and for as long as I have possession of it I'm certain it will function appropriately and it was at a very competitive price. Had I know it was not going to be what I expected I would have had a greater tendency to buy it locally than try and deal with a grab bag item. If variation occurs with products with regards to color of plastic handle then I'm okay with that with prior notice as long as it isn't for use with electrified components (its not but I do some electrical work).

Like others reviewers have said, the handle is black. And it's a touch shorter than I would prefer but I'm not using the handle to scratch the metal so I don't really care. The awl works great. No problems with it at all.

Got this to put golf tees in the ground when the ground was frozen

Great item, though recieved different handle color, got mine in black. Very small handle and difficult to spot in my toolbox. Made in USA awl. Good for ice pick.
