Historical Atlas of California: With Original Maps

As the author of a history of California, I wish I had had such an encyclopedic atlas when I was doing my research. The number and choice of maps covers the ground of city and regional development. If you have a history of California, you must place this volume next to it.

Bought this for my husband and he LOVES it. Huge hit for anyone interested in maps and history. Thank you to the author for putting such a gem together! There’s truly nothing else like it.

I saw this at a friend's studio and began paging through it. Pardon my ignorance, but as a New Yorker, I never learned about the early Russian inhabitants and their influence until I read it in this amazingly fine book. The largest collection of California and major city maps of California I've ever seen outside a library. DereK Hayes performs wonderfully in revealing the history of the State through maps.May I also recommend Los Angeles In Maps by Glen Creason, another fine map/history work

For a book this expensive the maps are small, hard to see and low quality. I have other historical atlases that I’m very happy with.I would not recommend this book.

This book was so much better than expected. A great way to explore California's history with a visual feast of maps. My particular interest was San Francisco, and the book really delivered with a concept map of what SF looked like in 1848. I was so pleased with my purchase and have spent hours pouring over this beautiful book. I would definitely recommend its purchase.
