Legendary deck.
I originally bought one of these decks by happenstance shortly after it came out, because I was standing in the bookstore just captivated by the art. I've enjoyed tarot for nearly 20 years and often use decks everyday. I still have that first deck, but because of the excessive wear it's been past time to retire them for a long time. I want searching and lo and behold, here they were. They made some subtle changes with the backs of the cards in the reprint but I could not be happier. I'm back to using them regularly, and they are a regular part of my rotation. If you really want a deck that's going to be completely honest with you, sometimes uncomfortably so, this is one of them. Are you ready to change direction? Then this might be for you.

Powerful deck, probably not for beginners
This is a really beautiful and powerful deck. It doesn’t use a classic tarot system per se, but anyone familiar with Rider Waite etc will see some similarities. However, this is a different system so be prepared to spend some time learning it when you first get it.So, I like this deck but feel a bit mixed about it. The positives are that it’s packaged beautifully and the cards are of a really high quality. They might be almost a touch too glossy as they shuffle a little fast for my taste. But they are gorgeous and the imagery is wonderful. The book and system are interesting. A lot of thought has been put into the explanations for different cards as well as the journey of the wild wood. The only thing that gave me pause was it is really clear this deck represents some very fixed ideas and ideologies of the people who made it. I find some of the interpretations they offer for cards to have a certain slant (mostly about the land, ancestors and our responsibility to protect it and our failure collectively to do so) that can become preachy and also sometimes comes off a little forced. I also feel like some of the descriptions or energies while long compared to many tarot decks, actually don’t say a whole lot. There is a teeny tiny bit of grandstanding going on. You can very much feel the views and ideologies of the authors throughout the guidebook and that’s not necessarily what I want in a deck as for me a tarot deck is a personal thing and should be, as far as possible, free from the biases and agendas of the makers. I found that I didn’t enjoy many of the descriptions as they didn’t always match the energy of the card and felt a bit too political to me.This really is a deck you use when you want to do some journeying, meditate and connect with primal energies. It’s not a daily deck or one for the mundane per se.All that being said, it’s a powerful deck. It’s one that I think is useful for meditation and to contemplate and connect to ancestral energies. If you’re after something that can give you easy guidance or for more daily or surface level stuff this will not be your thing.Should you buy it if you love tarot? I’d say so! It’s involved and I think will take months or years to fully connect with and explore with. This is a serious deck for serious study, so it won’t do much for you if you just want a quick tarot spread etc.Overall, it’s fabulous, but don’t expect it to be an easy one!
