Very enjoyable read
A very enjoyable read and pictorial on the many Jane Austen’s published covers for her books. The author uses wit and humor in describing the evolution the covers have gone through over the years. Much creative work was involved in designing and producing these covers and that recognition is shown by the author of this book’s compilation. The artistic covers range from quaint to historic to quirky, although not in any such order. A well-conceived addition to the collection of all things Jane Austen.

A great meta book for fans
This book is a tad silly -- it really is several pages of assorted book covers. But it's great! Sullivan does a balanced job providing context for each cover (time period, intended audience, etc) with funny observations. For example, guessing who is supposed to be portrayed on some of the odder covers. Noting the copies of Northanger Abbey that gush about its gothic suspense (wait, did no one read the book?). The influence of YA Fantasy Romance on contemporary Austen covers. If you have a loved one that keeps a "nice" copy and a "reading" copy of Pride and Prejudice, they'd probably enjoy this.

Gift for a friend
I bought this friend who is both a writer and a Jane Austen fan. She loved it! I flipped through it with her and it was fun to see how covers have changed over the years.Note to parents of young children: some covers were made with women who have little to no clothing.

How amazing an author was Jane Austen that there is book ...
How amazing an author was Jane Austen that there is book just about the covers of her books, 200 years and still interesting. This book inspired more purchases of Austen.

This covers all I need to know about Jane Austen's books.
I had just started collecting my second set of Jane Austen books when I came across this book and I now get a glimpse at all the different editions without having to own them.It starts with a timeline of Jane's life. Then photos from first edition books through to film covers up to 2009, it also has some interesting front covers from foreign language versions - Japan has interesting take on Elizabeth Bennet. There is a brief write up on her six main stories and a list of Jane's other lesser known works. Quotes have also been inserted throughout the book. I have had it sitting on my coffee table for a few weeks now and I love to just get a taste of that world when I am not reading one of her books.

Only for Janeites
If your interest in Jane Austen is considerable enough to extend to being curious about the way in which her books have been published over the past two hundred years, then this book is certainly one you will enjoy looking through, as it contains quite a large number, and wide range, of covers used for Austen books over that time. From today's perspective some of the covers reproduced are attractive, some are laughable and some merely odd. The author's accompanying commentary is occasionally amusing and occasionally not. The book is worth buying if you can get it at a reasonable price. It is large in size and well produced.

Lindo
