World of My Little Pony: An Unauthorized Guide for Collectors (Schiffer Book for Collectors with Price Guide)

I bought this book almost a year ago to assist me with collecting G1 ponies. I have to admit, the book is full of helpful color pictures, but it is sad to see the ponies in such ratty condition. The worst part is that nearly every pony is stood on an upside down pony crib as a "stand" of sorts. The book seems somewhat disorganized. Also, parts of the book include phrases such as "I think it came with..." or "I'm not sure if..." This leads me to believe the book was not edited very well. The author also makes-up names for certain ponies, which is very annoying.The price guide is worthless. She gives pricing by the condition of the pony, but never defines what those conditions will look like. Just look on Ebay if you want to see the market price of a paticular pony.I've seen many better MLP guides on the internet.If you can't resist buying this book, at least get a used one. It is definitely not worth the retail price.To conclude, the book is full of pictures and information, but don't rely on it as a single all knowing resource.2 stars for a nice attempt, but it simply doesn't make the grade.Hope that helps.

I'm a sucker for pretty pictures, and this baby's chock-fulla 'em. Aside from the distracting neon pinks and blues, the identification was mostly correct. Some names were wrong, the prices are SERIOUSLY off, and it's missing a large portion of accessories.Pony prices are mainly determined by Ebay and what newbie collector is willing to blow on a beat-up Applejack--sure she's cute, but is she worth $20? Prices seemed fairly flat-rate in the book, and though helpful in bartering prices, they mostly just make the antique/resell collectors all googly-eyed and claim that their chewed up 2nd issue Cotton Candy is worth $15 because she's 'collectable'.And yet I still adore the pretty pictures.

I've had this book since its original release.First the good:Its been helpful for identifying pony names and who was included in each set. There's some interesting pony tidbits and facts I didn't know.Cons: It was never at any time a reliable price guide. A mint mommy and baby beachy keen set in mint condition for $70? I can only hope some collectibles vendor in my town uses this guide to price because that was never realistic. Any pricing for uncommon htf or rare ponies in this book is way off, but the more common ponies I'd probably agree are going in the $3-$10 range.Also not a good book for identifying accessories that came with the ponies....and a lot of the ponies look clean but unstyled with ratty hair. Pictures are pretty unprofessional for this guide.Ultimately this was a decent enough guide to use only for identifying ponies when there were no others available. With so many resources available now I would skip this one.

the world of my little pony is a big one. Even though this is an UNAUTHORIZED guide I still recommened it to anyone interested in my little pony and all of its relations. I have a collection of around 5-6 thousand MLP collectibles to date. I hope only to increase it with time. this book is highly recommened for anyone like myself.

This is a GREAT "detailed" My Little Pony Book. "The World of My Little Pony, A Guide to Pony Collectibles", is a MUST have for any MLP Lover. Although this book has only the American Ponies, the pictures of the Ponies lets you catalog your collection in no time. Find the Ponies you are missing or name the Ponies you have. There are great pictures of Ponies MIB or MIP too. There are MANY, MANY other My Little Pony items not listed but this book really gives one a better insight into the Pony World. This book does have other items pertaining to My Little Pony like the play-sets and videos, audio tapes, and Pony clothing. It also has Pony purses, sleeping bags, skates, etc. I believe you will find this book very informative. This book also has a pricing guide but REMEMBER, just because it says how much a Pony would cost in the book, prices ONLY reflect the authors view. If you need a particular pony-you will pay more...if you have 2 or 3 of the same pony laying around-you will pay less. The old adage goes here of beauty is in the eye of the beholder--the same goes for $$ amounts. The author, Debra Birge, did a Wonderful job-thank you Debra for bringing our beloved Ponies back to life.

I really love being able to look at clear photos of MLPs. The book is worth buying just for the photos. The prices are a bit lower than usual going prices, but no one could ever keep up with the changing values. Also, More often then not the accessories for the playsets are wrong, but everyone makes mistakes.

I was warned it only covered US Ponies from 1982-1991 & was a tad messy, but fortunately that's not entirely true. If all you're interested in are the Ponies from the States in those ten years then the G1 Collector's Inventory is brilliant for it. I got this book to complement that inventory, in particular where it has its main trouble: merchandise!!! Whereas the Inventory only dedicates one page to assorted merchandise from these years, this book has a whole section, with a large selection of jigsaws included as well as other assorted items featuring MLP on them, & once a collector has all the Ponies or all but the most expensive Ponies, (s)he needs another option for cheaper stuff to keep the bug at bay, hence the collection of MLP merchandise. It would be very helpful if some collectors out there could put together a comprehensive guide to g1, g2, g3 & g4 merchandise. With Amazon helping I might be able to help out wi the books!!!
