WWE - The American Dream - The Dusty Rhodes Story [DVD]

Son of a plumber-man
This is a 3 DVD-set featuring the legendary performer known as Dusty Rhodes. Each disc is presented with a fair amount of matches as well as interview segments and skits. Disc 1 features the documentary. One error I noticed on the first disc is an interview conducted by Vince where it is labeled as being from Madison Square Garden. This interview was actually from the TV program All-Star Wrestling where Vince interviews Rhodes in front of the ring.Aside from being a great set on Dusty himself, this program is also a nice time capsule on pro wrestling throughout the 70's, 80's, and some parts of the 90's. I was glad to see the complete ring entrance of The Nature Boy in his match with Rhodes at the Great American Bash. One funny moment I noticed was a botched move by Virgil. When Dustin's clothesline didn't knock Virgil over the ropes, Virgil just seem knock himself over the ropes. Even Jimmy Hart, who was on commentary, made a joke out of it.Another thing I was glad to see was that the old WWF logos were not digitally covered. Not a big deal I suppose, but still a bit annoying when it happens. Of course the one obvious bad thing is the removal of Jesse Ventura's commentary. Ventura was almost always entertaining on commentary. Otherwise it was a pleasure to see all the old segments from Mid-Atlantic, World Wide, and NWA World Championship Wrestling. Overall just a great and historic set on Dusty and pro wrestling itself.

The Sport Cannot Do Without "The Dream"
Trying to write the history of professional wrestling without including the former Virgil Runnels is parallel to talking about the Founding Fathers without mentioning "The Federalist Papers." This documentary captures brilliantly the excitement Dusty created whichever ring he exercised a well-aimed elbow or figure-four leglock. You will wish you lived back in the times when Rhodes dominated the Florida and Georgia scenes. A very poignant counterpoint to all the match action is being honest about the falling out Dusty had with his eldest son Dustin (Goldust). At present Rhodes is doing behind the scenes work for WWE, but I look forward to the day when the plumber's son steps into the arena again to "manage" both Goldust and Cody Rhodes to tag team glory. Dusty's late fellow Texas Outlaw, Dick Murdoch, would assuredly approve that move.

A GREAT TRIBUTE TO THE AMERICAN DREAM!
The WWE doesn't always do these DVDS very well but this one chronicles Dusty Rhodes life in a great way..Some of the matches bring back memories for me especially the ones from MSG vs superstar Graham..I was working as photographer in the late 70s and I was photographing at ringside during the bouts.. great footage from Dusty's early carrier and tons of great promos from mid Atlantic and NWA yrs..I'm not mentioning his later matches in wwf because I'm not fond of Dusty's polka dot period but as they say he made a lot of money doing it..I recommend this dvd highly because in many ways Dusty Rhodes was a visionary of the business and one of wrestlings biggest stars...

the american legend
I do not own many wrestling DVD's but love classic wrestling from the 70's and 80's, and this DVD was everthing I hoped for when i purchased it.Disc 1 with the Dusty Rhodes life story is interesting, and informative about were Dusty came from and were he's been. the matches under the extra's on disc 1 are from Dusty's early days in the AWA and Florida and are excellent. Disc 2 is the gem of the bunch with classic matches against Billy Graham, harely Race,Tully Blanchard and on and on plus many classic Dusty interviews and promos. Disc 2 alone to me was worth the price. disc 3 to me is not my favorite, I didn't like what the WWE(WWF at the time) has Dusty doing, wearing poka dot trunks and just being a 2nd tier wretler, which he never was.

The American Dream WWE GOT IT RIGHT
WWE got it right with this DVD compilation. It was the first DVD comp from WWE that I trulyed enjoyed from beginning to end along with The Road Warriors comp. My only gripe is that there are no Dusty vs Kevin Sullivan matches for some strange reason considering WWE bought the rights to CWF matches from Mike Graham and there are a few matches from Florida on the DVD.Classic matches vs Superstar Billy Graham from MSG and they were smart enough not to include the second match from the 3 match series which is already on the Graham DVD compilation. Many classic Dustry promos!Buy and enjoy! LONG LIVE THE AMERICAN DREAM, LONG LIVE DUSTY RHODES!
