My favorite scientist and forever my inspiration in life
By degree I'm a mechanical engineer, but by profession I'm a scientist. Madame Marie Curie, a physicist and chemist, the only person who has won a Nobel prize in two separate fields of science. She is one of the most remarkable minds ever to have lived on this planet. She is also the most inspiring person in my life. A biography about Madame Curie is something which everyone of our generation and beyond should read. My passion for scientific research ignited when I came to know about this exceptional personality. Even the world's most renowned scientist, Einstein said about M.Curie, "Marie Curie is of all celebrated beings, the only one whom fame has not corrupted." Rest in Peace, ma'am.

Eve Curie has wonderfully written the Biopgraphy of her mom the great Scientist ...
I wanted to read this book from quiet sometime... Eve Curie has wonderfully written the Biopgraphy of her mom the great Scientist Madame Curie. Her unwavering passion for Science, her struggle to educate herself, an unconditional love and support of her husband and family, patriotism for her country, in-corrupt attitude towards fame and pure devotion towards innovation without thinking of earning handsome money through patents are some very subtle words for this Great personality...The younger science graduates should read her biography to learn and experience that political, social and economic adversities can never stop a Real passionate to do science !!!!!!

A very useful Life
This book written by her second daughter, Eve Curie, is about Marie Curie's life. She was born in Warsaw, Poland on Nov.7, 1867, when Poland was under Russian rule of Tsar. She was the fifth child of her father who taught Mathematics and Physics. The family of five children did not have much money but were united in purpose to have a better life for each one of them. She won a Gold Medal after completing secondary education. This helped her credentials and got her a job as a Governess, which she worked as for 6 years and saved enough money to go to Paris for further studies. She wanted to come back home and become a teacher and look after her father who had retired. In Paris, she studies hard, live mostly on bread and butter, radishes and cherries, and earns two master's degrees--one in Physics and the other in Mathematics. Pierre Curie, a French teacher of Physics persuades her to marry him, and they do. They have their first daughter Irene, born before their discovery of Polonium and Radium. She and her husband got the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903 that they shared with Henri Becquerel for radioactivity, and then Madam Curie got a second Nobel for Chemistry in 1911 for the discovery of Polonium and Radium and for advancement of Chemistry. The work on Radium formed her thesis for the Doctorate degree in Physical Sciences. Together they wrote 32 papers from 1899 to 1904 after the discovery of Radium. Her husband died when she was 38 years old with two daughters to take care of. She is made the teacher of the Physics at the Sorbonne. Irene also wins a Chemistry Nobel in 1935 with her husband.Marie curie dies in July 1934 believed to be anemia due to excessive radiation. Her book "Radioactivity" was completed but her house in France that she desired never got built. One of her famous quotes says: "In Science, we must be interested in things, not in persons." This biographical book on Madam Curie by Eve Curie is divided into three parts in 385 pages and is an interesting and enjoyable read for people of all ages, especially students who could be inspired by her life as to work hard and never give up.
