I'm hapy so far
UPDATE: it is now February of 2022, and I'm ordering my first set of replacement cartridges! Given that I bought the printer on October 2019, that is amazing. I used to replace Canon cartridges every 2-3 months, so this is a game changer for me... In terms of quality, the printer works well. We use it all the time with my family to print from multiple computers and directly from our phones. Quality is average, but so far no issues other than the occasional head cleaning.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I've had this printer for a few weeks. So far, it has met my expectations. Here are my impressions so far:Installation: I'm a software engineer and usually installing stuff is easy for me. Setting up this printer was average. I had no problem setting it up and installing the software, but I can see some less technical people having some trouble with some of the steps. Overall, I had a positive experience and everything worked fine the first time around.Build: This printer is very solid and well built. Before buying it I looked at a similarly priced Epson at Costco and it felt very flimisy. This one seems better built than my previous Canon MX922, which performed well for a while. I'm very satisfied with the hardware so far. The document feeder also seems robust and I had no problems scanning a couple of pages.Print quality: My previous Canon had better photo print quality than this printer. I tried printing a borderless full page picture with it. The photo took a while to print, and the colors were a bit washed with not very good blacks. I think this printer is OK for the ocassional job of printing pictures, but if this is your main use for it, I would probably consider other alternatives. For black and white printing, and for color pages (non photo), the printer has good quality and is very fast.Cartdridge life: this is why I bought this printer. The cartridges are big and are supposed to last a long time. I cannot say at this time if this is true. Only time will tell. I will update my review when I have to change the first cartridge.Overall: this seems like a good choice. I'm giving it a 5 star rating for now. I'll update in a few months.

Best Printer I’ve Owned
I ditched my HP printer for this one and do not regret it at all!Depending on usage, the inks last a very good while. For frequent use, it can still last as long as a year. More infrequent use can make the ink last twice as long, however get used to checking the print quality before use and setting the nozzle cleaner. I’ve had this printer for 2+ years so I know! But that doesn’t take away from its quality at all! This printer will print with great quality and even the pictures print out nicely when you buy the photo paper.Highly recommend!

Great Printer.....If It Fits!
In less than a day I have gotten this printer to do everything I need it to do, with exceptional quality!Set-up was a breeze!I did have an issue with printing envelopes, through my financial software, and looked for help on Brother's website. I was greeted in a live chat and he asked to join me on my screen. After accepting, and going over a few basics, he got very quiet and then I got a message saying "a visitor has joined the chat". This spooked me, and I terminated the call. I managed to figure out the issue on my own.I gave this only 4 stars because it's freaking HUGE! Another 1/4" and it would have gone back to Amazon!Make sure you have room for this mammoth!

brother: a step above
This was purchased to replace an Epson WF-3640 that had a severely clogged print head. There were also some enigmatic foibles from the Epson software / firmware that made custom print settings somewhat of an adventure. The first thing you notice about the brother MFC-J5845DW is that it's heavy. This is a business model AIO so is rated for 2,000 pages per month use / 30,000 pages max. The paper handling is lateral (travels across the long sides) and it ejects printed sheets with some "authoritay". USB, ethernet and WiFi are all supported along with WiFi Direct and Google Cloud printing. The only option that's missing is a media card slot(s); it does have a USB port up front for printing off of thumb drives. The ports for the cables are under the scanner bed, not directly on the back or side; they connect and run through a channel exiting on the right rear; makes for a cleaner setup. The power cord is attached directly so no losing it when you move the machine and no accidental disconnects from the back. The "INKvestment" system is one step above your usual over-priced printer cartridge refills; it uses cartridges to fill a built in tank system so in theory running a 3rd party refill ink shouldn't be a problem *but* brother has a reputation for not squeezing every last penny from its customers so I plan to stay with genuine ink replacement.Brother's attention to detail includes a full suite of software available for download and repacking instructions printed on one of the box flaps so that you'll be able to repack the printer for shipping.Overall, definitely recommended for anyone needing a color AIO (with fax) that prints/scans duplex automatically.Edit: Finally used the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) for year end invoice scans; it handled 12 piece stacks of tri-folded statements with aplomb and brother's iPrint&Scan software bundled everything into PDFs for me.

So far, just fine, Now NOT so fine
So far, good. 1st page out is quick, duplex printing is quick. The ONLY thing is pictures could maybe be a little better, maybe? Really close to other printers I have used. Noise level is very acceptable, foot print is fine, looks good. One star off for picture quality. Apple Mac, now scan does not work, blurred page. Turns out the scanner is NOT compatible with Mac OS 10.14. Will scan if you use the Brother software. The app is not very good, so if you were looking for a printer I would suggest NOT looking at Brother if you are using a Mac
