As good as it gets for the EOS M system
I needed a large aperture standard prime to get the best from my M3 and M5. Whilst the standard Canon M zooms are fine for every day use, the high quality sensor and system can cope with top quality glass.I thought long and hard about the cheaper Sigma system, with included lens hoods, but went with the Canon to ensure longevity and system compatibility. It’s also smaller than the 30mm Sigma. My initial testing shows the Canon prime to be very sharp across the image from centre to edge and into the corners at f1.4 and f2. It’s a definite step up from the 18 to 55mm zoom and a bit sharper than the superb 22mm F2 pancake lens. At f2.8 and f4 it’s outstanding from centre to edge and as good as a few EF and R L (pro) primes. It’s heavier than I’d expected due to all the glass used and is a superb match to the M5 mini SLR style camera. The final reason I went for the Canon over the Sigma is it retains its second hand value as it’s sought after by enthusiasts like me and Amazon is one of very few U.K. stockists or this rare beauty. As good as it gets for the EOS M system and on the M5 it outperforms the lower end of the newer R series for stills. You would need the £2k EF 35mm f1.4 L mk 2 and the M adapter to get a better performance. That is far larger and heavier.Expensive but a mini masterpiece.

Easily the best EOS M lens to date.
This is a phenomenal lens. All the positive reviews are correct; it’s a beast. Its not particularly cheap but optically, this blows all other EF-M lenses out of the water. So, should you buy it? It depends on what you want from your camera. The 50mm equivalent field of view is close to what the human eye sees but can be a little restrictive for architecture shots. The low 1.4 aperture is great for low light but if you don’t often shoot in low light you may be fine with the 22mm f/2.0 pancake lens. This however is a great walkaround/street photography lens. It renders colours beautifully, especially at the golden hour and the low light performance is superb. I don’t think my M6 is particularly strong with low light, with noticeable noise creeping in at ISO 800 but with the fast aperture of this lens, you can keep the ISO lower and the shutter speed fast enough for sharp shots.I have attached a few of the pictures I’ve taken so far. They’ve been edited minimally in Lightroom but truth be told, they didn’t need much work. An unbelievable lens and one I doubt I’ll be removing from my camera too much.

Bitingly sharp, light-sucking bokeh monster
A fantastic, compact lens with beautifully rendered bokeh. The build quality is exceptional, and autofocus is fast and accurate.Bitingly sharp and great for low-light situations; with its fast f1.4 maximum aperture I can almost shoot in the dark. This lens is the perfect 50mm equivalent partner to my Canon M50.While by no means a macro lens, as a bonus it actually focuses pretty close too.Come on Canon: more fast aperture, affordable primes like this for the M system, please.

What no lens hood?
Yes this is the sharpest and brightest lens available in an EF-M mount. Paired up with an EOS M6 it produces stunning results. So why not 5*.It's lost a star because one of the images in the listing shows it coming with a lens hood, which it doesn't. Anyway not including a lens hood with a £500 is cheap.

Quality Lens
I received this lens earlier than expected, well packed and in perfect condition. Attaching it to my Canon EOS M6, everything seems to work. I took a few test shots (pictured) of autumn leaves, the shopping centre clock, and the club house. Viewing the originals at 1:1, this is a very sharp and detailed lens. There is also good background blur, which will be important for portraits, my primary use for this lens.09/10/2018 Added eight more test shots taken around the Princes Quay/Hull Marina areas with the Canon EF-M 32mm f/1.4 lens. Conditions sunny. Again, looking at the originals at 1:1 revealed great detail.

Quite possibly my favourite lens ever
Lovely lens. Not too heavy but very well constructed. Takes great portrait shots and pretty decent landscapes as long as you don't crop in too far. Depth of field is very shallow at F1.4 but creates lovely bokeh.

Excellent lens for bokeh/blurry backgrounds for my Zoom calls and video recordings
I've upgraded the original "EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM" lens for my Canon EOS M200 to this "EF-M 32MM F/1.4 STM" and the quality of bokeh backgrounds has improved significantly for my Zoom calls and video recordings. Definitely a worthy investment.

L like quality in a small package.
I was a bit apprehensive about paying this much for a lens that only works on a crop camera, especially as I already have the much cheaper 22mm f/2. Having read so many good things about this I took a chance. What can I say, its lives up to all the hype. The quality is second to none in the 50mm (equivalent) range. Sharp at the edges even wide open. I honestly cant fault this lens as a do it all, other than no stabilization and STM is fast, but not quite as snappy as USM or USM Nano. Not sure its worth the money to everyone, but it’s certainly a lens that you wont be disappointed with. Limiting factor is now the sensor in the M series cameras.
