This little invention is great. I liked it so much
This little invention is great. I liked it so much, I bought a bunch of them over Christmas and gave them to other guitarists as presents.I have a dozen guitars, this little fellow makes cleaning and servicing them quicker and easier. I used to use a paper towel wet with a spritz of glass cleaner to wipe the strings down after playing (then dress with some sort of light oil to prevent rust). I haven't used any cleanser at all with the String Cleaner - I just clamp it on and pull it up and down the guitar several times, and I'm sure both sides of the string are clean. I still dress the strings with light oil after cleaning to ensure no rust.Several reviews mention that it gets tight up near the first fret - yes, it does - but nothing problematic. It takes minimal effort to gently force the device to clean the strings all the way to the nut. All of my guitars are set with exceptionally low action and I can get the String Cleaner to clean the entire first-position without a problem. It's washable, too. I put it in a lingerie bag and throw it in the wash machine with clothes once every few weeks, then leave it in the sun on a window sill to dry. It comes out good as new every time.If you're as detailed as I am about the care and cleaning of your stringed instruments, this is a nice little time-saver to add to your toolbox.

Does the job, but so does a microfiber cloth
It does the job, but so would a simple microfiber cloth, and a microfiber cloth is washable and doesn't produce a bunch of plastic waste.

It worked
I have a very nice old Martin guitar that I hadn't played for a number of years. When I decided to start playing again I found the strings to have a bit of corrosion on them. I actually do like a slightly dulled sound on my guitar and I didn't want the brightness of new strings, so I decided to try this little device as a means of clearing the worst of the corrosion. Frankly, I wasn't expecting much, but it really did a nice job, giving me the sound I wanted to retain in my guitar. I'd strongly recommend it to other serious guitarists.

and it works just fine with this cleaner
It seems many issues with this tool may be related to user error, or other problems with the guitar or setup. The action on my electric is ludicrously low, and it works just fine with this cleaner. You have to use just a wee bit of force to get it up near the nut, but this doesn't make your strings last for an eternity, it's just good practice to keep them feeling, looking, and sounding their best as long as possible. If guitar strings can take extreme Floyd-Rose abuse, they can take a little tugging after long sessions to clean dirt and grime.Despite that the manufacturer claims no solutions are necessary, you can certainly apply them to the cloth. I won't make recommendations as to which to use, as it seems to be a touchy subject... but if you do wipe your strings with any cleaning solution, you can apply it to this cloth, and if you have two, use another to remove the excess.

Doesn't quite make it to the nut / 1st fret of the guitar
Nice unit. Easy to use, It could just be the string height on my guitar, but doesn't quite make it to the 1st fret of the guitar unless you loosen the strings a little. Over all a nice unit.

Useless junk
It is a battle to open & close but once you do get ot closed it really puts very little micro cloth on the strings. Such a thin cloth. Useless

Easy to Damage your guitar if not careful
The plastic under the bottom pad could scrape top of pick guard or guitar finish if not careful. I stopped using it because of this type of build. They could put a thin pad to cut down the possible damage. Nice idea but I will use a cloth and take my time to clean the strings.

Cleaner strings for longer
Originally, I use a product called fast fret to clean the strings but then found out upon changing the strings over the underside of the strings were absolutely filthy. This is where this product comes in handy, it does clean the whole 360º diameter of the strings therefore not as much grime builds up on the fretboard and the string life lasts a little bit longer with its sound.I can say it DOES work on seven string guitars but not on eight string baritones, you might have to clamp it on a few strings at a time with that one. However, if you combo this up with fast fret cleaner and guitar tailored lemon oil for the fretboard itself, you can't go wrong at all

Simple and Effective
Great wee gadget for cleaning guitar strings. Just slides in and clips around strings, then move up and down fretboard to clean strings after playing. One-handed action to open and release. Gadget can be washed.
